Oklahoma Filmmaker Wins MoVI M5 Stabilizer in Shutterstock Drawing

Adam Smith, co-owner of Duncan, Oklahoma based video production company Smith Pixels, was the big winner at the Shutterstock-hosted Wednesday afternoon drawing at NAB 2014. Shutterstock, a fast growing stock footage company, gave a series of in-booth seminars at its exhibit in the South Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Freefly Systems gave away one of its M VI M5s, a three axis digital stabilizer designed to capture incredibly stable footage on a variety of shooting platforms. The M5 was designed for cameras including the Canon 5D, Nikon D800, Panasonic GH4 and the Blackmagic Designs Pocket Cinema Camera.

The drawing took place before an aisle-blocking crowd at the end of an in-booth discussion about the M VI and contributing stock footage to Shutterstock. Delivering the seminar were Freefly Systems president Tabb Firchau, and Daniel Hurst, a director of photography, long-time contributor of video clips to the Shutterstock library and a M VI user himself. The discussion was moderated by Shutterstock footage content producer, Derick Rhodes.

A member of the packed crowd asked Hurst how difficult it was to become a stock footage contributor. It's much easier than it used to be, replied Hurst. You can go right on Shutterstock's website and fill out an application, and send them three or four clips. They'll review the clips and tell you whether they want them for the Shutterstock collection. Derek Rhodes added that Shutterstock pays a royalty of 30% of a clip's selling price.

Winner Adam Smith and his brother Andrew do commercial production work as well as shooting independent features. They said they can not wait to get home and put the M VI to work.
