Sonifex Show New Products At BVE 0

The new CM-CU1 Commentator Unit.

Sonifex is showing a range of new products on stand E03 at BVE 2013.

Marcus Brooke, Managing Director said We've got a number of new communications products to show at BVE in Excel. The RB-IPE is an IP controlled unit used for remotely controlling equipment by transferring and translating GPI/O and analogue control signals across a network. We're also showing the CM-CU1 single commentator unit for use at sports stadia and the superb CM-TB8 8 Channel Talkback Control unit designed for use in OB trucks and production galleries.

The new Redbox RB-IPE IP Extender for GPIO & Analogue Control Signals is a 1U rackmount unit designed to provide remote control of GPIO and analogue control voltages over an Ethernet network. Configured using a built-in web server, two units can control each other across an Ethernet network, or a single unit can be controlled via Ethernet commands and the web server interface.

It has 16 x general purpose inputs on 8 x RJ45 connectors, consisting of 8 x isolated current sink inputs and 8 x pull to ground protected inputs; and 16 x general purpose outputs on 8 x RJ45 connectors using 8 x isolated relay change-over contacts and 8 x opto-isolated contacts. These rear panel RJ45 connectors have an LED for each GPIO which shows its state.

On another 8 x RJ45 connectors there are also 8 x 0 to 3.3V/5V/12V input signals and 8 output signals nominally at 0 to 3.3V output, with other output voltage configurations possible.

The new CM-CU1 Commentator Unit is one of the latest additions to the Sonifex range of commentary products offering a high quality, robust specification, with a feature set tailored to single commentator applications.

It provides a fully featured commentator position with a line-level input and has an individual commentator output, with an additional output providing a mix of commentator and line input audio.

The line input can be configured to remain present at the mix output even if the commentator is off air, making it useful for routing crowd effects or pre-recorded material to the programme feed. Its presence in the commentator's headphones is also configurable to suit the application.

Four talkback output channels, with a built in limiter, are available to the commentator and they can be linked to provide simultaneous operation. Activation of one or more talkback channels removes the commentator audio from the main output until all talkback channels are deactivated.

A wide input gain range and switchable phantom power allows support of a variety of microphone types including low output ribbon mics, headsets and high output phantom powered microphones. There are 5 transformer balanced return audio inputs which, along with the commentator input, are routed to the headphone monitor controls.

A GPIO port gives an open-collector driven output indication of any active On-Air or talkback channel and four remote inputs provide an external call/alert to each of the talkback controls. An automatic tone mode repeatedly sends different quantities of tone bursts to each output to make it effortless for a single technician to set up.

In addition, the new CM-TB8 8 Channel Talkback Control Uni t is a powerful and highly flexible self contained communications unit providing 8 channels of 4-wire communication, housed in a 1U rack mount enclosure. It has individual connections for both a headset on 5 pin XLR and microphone/headphones on XLR/stereo TRS jack, with the current selection indicated on the front panel. The gain setting for each input type can be individually set between +6dB and +68dB allowing for a wide range of microphone types and +48V phantom power is also available.

The unit provides a wide range of user configurable options and there are 6 configuration templates that allow settings to be stored and recalled at a later date. Two of the configuration sets are read only and cannot be changed. The other four can be used to store customised settings.

The Ethernet port allows configuration settings to be modified using the built-in web server and an on-board configuration mode allows several of the configuration options to be changed without the need of a PC. The unit is powered from a universal mains input between 85-264V AC at 47-63Hz.

Also, a select collection of Sonifex Redboxes and full range of Reference monitors are showing along with the CM-TBU, CM-TLL, the S0 Radio Broadcast Mixer and the Portable Solutions Radio Package.

The DaySequerra brand of audio products will also be on show, in particular the new iLC2ST dual stereo loudness controller which is a breakthrough in quality and price offering independent loudness control of two stereo audio feeds for under £3,000.
