Compelling films feature at the Bioscope Independent Cinema --

The Bioscope Independent Cinema in Johannesburg will host a line-up of thought provoking screenings in the last week of May.
The Good Man
Written and directed by Phil Harrison, who will attend the opening screening on Friday 23 May at 19h30, The Good Man features the interweaving stories of an Irish banker and a young South African student. While one character struggles to accept causing a stranger s death, the other strives to escape life in a Cape Town township. Both of their lives are impacted when their stories suddenly collide.
Tickets will cost R40,00.

Blackfish
Presented as part of a partnership with The Cape Town Eco Film Festival, screenings of the documentary Blackfish will take place from 20 to 22 May at 19h30.
Directed and produced by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Blackfish tells the story of a performing killer whale which killed several people while in captivity. The film features shocking footage and emotional interviews which are revealing of the species harsh treatment in captivity. It also highlights the lives of the trainers who work for the multi-billion dollar sea-park industry.

Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul
This month s KiezKino event, in partnership with the Goethe Institut Johannesburg, features a screening of Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul on 27 May at 19h30. The film is a tribute to Istanbuls flourishing music scene, directed by Fatih Akin.

Cinema of Prayoga
Indian filmmaker Pierre Friquet, will present screenings of short films, documentaries and feature films, which will offer his unique view on filmmaking based on the term Prayoga from Indian philosophy.
Screenings will take place on 31 May at 20h00 and on 1 June at 19h00.
Tickets for each screening will cost R40,00.
Shortstraw hosts If I Owned a Cinema event
On 30 May at 19h30 South African indie rockers, Shortstraw, will screen their film choice, Dude Where s My Car and will play a drinking game with the audience throughout the movie.
Tickets can be reserved by buying a drink for R20,00 from the Bioscope website.
