The Independent Mzansi Short Film Festival (IMSFF), which takes place from 25 to 29 June at the MAXI-Cineplex in the Hatfield Plaza in Pretoria, has announced its final selection of films. Over 100 short films and up to 60 hours of entertainment from international, up-and-coming and prominent filmmakers will feature as part of the festival line-up.

IMSFF aims to present an engaging programme of short films while supporting, recognising and honouring filmmakers who have created films under 25 minutes in length. The official selection includes South African Film and Television Awards winners and nominees, Silwerskermfees shorts, Afrinolly shorts, Festival de Cannes Short Film Corner selections, Best Animated Short Oscar winner. Altogether, six documentaries, 14 animated short films, 17 student short films, 37 international short films, 50 South African narrative short films and one feature film premiere will feature at IMSFF.

Nominees and winners in 16 categories will be selected by a panel of jurors consisting of industry professionals such as Leon van Nierop, Rehad Desai and Tom Marais. The gala awards ceremony will take place on 29 June where entrants stand the chance to win a cash prize of R50,000. Mzansi Bioskop will also be offering one film the opportunity to be developed into a feature film.

Guy Sclanders, Creative Producer at Global Access, which is the festival s headline sponsor, says, There are many reasons that a short film festival is important. A succinct short is in many ways far more challenging to create than a feature length film. A short film is a brief glimpse into the psyche of the filmmaker. For just a few minutes we get to see the world through someone elses eyes; sometimes bringing us joy, sometimes sadness - but always giving us something to think about. IMSFF is run by exceptional people who have compiled an amazing collection of shorts. This is a festival like a no other, and promises us an awesome experience.

Film session tickets will be available at the venue for R25.00 while a day pass will cost R70.00.
