Universal Electronics to introduce new voice remote reference platform at IBC 2017

Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI), (NASDAQ: UEIC), the worldwide leader in universal control and sensing technologies for the smart home, is set to launch and demonstrate a voice remote reference platform created using Nuances Dragon TV technology at IBC 2017.

The remote control reference platform designed to accelerate voice control adoption across the pay TV landscape is based on UEIs newly introduced UE878 Bluetooth system on a chip (SoC). The platform is then connected through a reference host set-top box to the speech and natural language processing of Nuances Dragon TV. This years IBC show in Amsterdam will be the first ever opportunity to see the platform in action as part of a joint demonstration between UEI and Nuance.

UEI is a leader in voice remote controls, with 25 million units sold in 2016 alone, and so we are perfectly positioned to witness their strong adoption across EMEA operators, says Menno Koopmans, managing director, UEI. We already have a strong track record of successful deployments in the US, but this is our first foray together into the EU market, and an attempt to further speed up the adoption of voice control technology.

From a technical perspective, we think this is a particularly powerful solution. UEIs voice control technology and Nuances Dragon TV both recently won Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards in the Contextual Voice Navigation for Discovering and Interacting with TV Content category earlier in August.
