Sony Professional Solutions China (PSC) has won a key project for China Central Television (CCTV), building the first 4K IP OB van for the major broadcaster. All core components including cameras, switchers and live servers feature Sonys IP Live systems and products.
Satisfying CCTVs high-end 4K UHD production requirements, the new vehicle will be deployed at a wide range of sporting and entertainment events. It will also be used to gain experience in 4K TV production techniques as a basis for the channels future broadcasting practices. The OB Van will offer the best of IP networking solutions, enabling transmission and signal switching for video and audio synchronisation and control functions.
The OB Van has Sonys 4K IP Live system as its core solution. It also adopts commercial-off the shelf (COTS) general-purpose IP switches that are universally applied throughout the IT industry. Acquisition and signal routing for live broadcasts is handled by the HDC-4300 and HDC-4800 4K/HD camera chains, networked over IP with Sonys new XVS-7000 series 4K IP switcher. Recording and playback is managed by the PWS-4500 multi-port live production server. Sonys IP Live System Manager (LSM) simplifies management and monitoring of all IP networked devices.
Extremely high system availability is assured by multiple backup and fail-over systems. Sonys robust IP Live architecture also supports hot backup of key system components, while offering excellent fault tolerance and automatic recovery capabilities. Dual network ports on connected devices, dual switches and dual network management systems assure even greater reliability in the most challenging live broadcasting environments.
