at 2015 GoPro Mountain Games
April 8, 2015 (Vail, Colo.) The Vail Valley Foundation, organizer of the annual GoPro Mountain Games, is pleased to announce the headlining bands confirmed for this year's event: Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, presenting Run DMC Remixed, Iration and G. Love & Special Sauce. In addition, The Silent Comedy will open for G. Love & Special Sauce. The GoPro Mountain Games is scheduled for June 4-7, 2015 featuring free concerts in the heart of Vail Village, alongside more than 3,000 athletes competing across 25 sports for prize money exceeding $110,000.
The GoPro Mountains of Music presented by Coors Light will kick off Thursday night with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe presenting Run DMC, followed by Iration on Friday and closing out with The Silent Comedy followed by G. Love & Special Sauce on Saturday. All concerts at the GoPro Mountain Games are free and take place at Checkpoint Charlie in Vail Village.
Karl Denson's Tiny Universe will be accompanied by San Diego-based MCs, Vokab Kompany, during its second set to present Run DMC Remixed. Together they'll reinvent hits including It's Tricky, My Adidas and King of Rock. Denson will also dig into his own classic repertoire. An acclaimed reedman and songwriter in his own right, Denson first came to national attention as a member of Lenny Kravitzs Let Love Rule-era band and was recently announced as saxophonist for the Rolling Stones on their upcoming tour.
Alternative reggae group, Iration, from Isla Vista, Calif., will take the stage for Friday night's free concert. The band's deep-rooted reggae influence is fused with elements of rock and pop, creating smooth original sounds that keep listeners' feet moving, hands swaying and hearts beating. Releasing their first album in 2006, the group has been touring nationally since 2008 and remains in the top 20 on Billboard's Reggae Album Chart.
Classic hip-hop blues trio G. Love & Special Sauce will close out the GoPro Mountains of Music, featuring vocalist/guitarist/harmonica player G. Love (aka Garrett Dutton), upright bassist James Jimi Jazz Prescott and drummer Jeffrey The Houseman Clemens. Propelled by hit singles like Cold Beverage and Baby's Got Sauce, G. Love and Special Sauce started in 1993, continuing to build a following that endures today. San Diego-based group The Silent Comedy will open for G. Love & Special Sauce, mixing Americana, Folk and Rock n' Roll into a sound that is best understood by experiencing their live show. Brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman started the band not only to capture the feeling of the bar culture they worked in, but also to capture the energy of the revival meetings they grew up attending. The outcome is an experience that has been described as a whiskey fueled tent revival.
Year after year we look forward to the overall music experience at GoPro Mountain Games, as we continue to work with top talent to capture distinctive music moments both on and off stage, said Music Marketing Manager for GoPro, David Rodrick. Vail has proven to be an exceptional location to host the event, drawing crowds from far and wide who all share a similar passion for the outdoors, adventure, family fun and music.
As title sponsor of the Mountain Games, GoPro will outfit athletes and musicians with cameras and mounts to capture unique POV content of their festival experience. GoPro, best known for its ties to action and adventure sports, continues to expand its presence in music with the release of the HERO4 Music Edition, which easily mounts the camera to instruments, microphone stands, turntables and other stage equipment to capture immersive GoPro style footage of any performance. GoPro recently launched the Done in One campaign, encouraging musicians nationwide to upload their best-unedited GoPro music moment with submissions judged on cinematography and perspective, creativity and originality, sound and lighting and performance and style. Musicians traveling to Vail should capture their own creative Done in One surrounded by all the beauty Vail has to offer.
Free music is a key component in celebrating the mountain culture and lifestyle during our event. We're thrilled to add more and better music than ever this year, said Mike Imhof, Senior Vice President of Sales & Operations at the Vail Valley Foundation. G. Love & Special Sauce, Iration and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe are big names that we know will produce great shows. We're grateful for the support of GoPro in helping make this the best lineup yet and we look forward to announcing more great bands for the 2015 GoPro Mountain Games.
Registration and lodging for the 2015 GoPro Mountain Games are available at www.gopromountaingames.com. Participants are encouraged to register early to save on costs. Spectating at the GoPro Mountain Games and all concerts are free and open to the public.
