Everybody Loves a DIVA

The basic definition of DIVA in the English language is goddess. The more modern interpretation is someone, or something, that requires constant attention or pampering.

Well; the Front Porch Digital DIVA platform was a goddess of a product that many broadcasters admired and relied on to protect their digital legacy. LTO, the media It used, and uses today, to protect that content certainly can be a DIVA in modern terms.

Sadly, for the amazing team that built it, since Oracle cancelled its IBC stand including job rebalancing , a number of options for migrating off the DIVA platform have come to market. We have always had a really strong relationship with the Front Porch team and in many ways, it goes against the grain to join the bandwagon.

However, it is clear that the media industry is looking for change and needs more modern options than replacing their legacy platform with just the same. It needs so much more than a LTO type of product can provide.

When you look at how the industry has changed over recent years, it is hardly surprising. Broadcasters and other content providers are tasked with delivering a non-stop stream of videos to multiple devices. Not only that but legacy content is suddenly becoming more important and relevant so it is no longer a matter of throwing content into deep storage and forgetting about it. Instant access is key, all while keeping content secure and protected.

The other big game changer right now is hybrid cloud. Not only does hybrid cloud storage help facilitate that instant local access, but also enables collaboration with global teams. Many broadcasters are making a key decision right now. Replace their LTO library management layer or look to implement a cloud based strategy. The majority are investigating in hybrid cloud options that bring operational and financial benefits as well as the opportunity to truly exploit their digital content legacy.

Change doesn't always mean you need to move away from Front Porch DIVA entirely. In some cases, using LTO for on-demand workflows no longer makes any sense and in those cases, you need to exit that setup and migrate away from DIVA without losing any of that all-important content and any associated metadata.
