RT wins 7 awards at IFTAs

RT wins 17 awards at IFTAs 11 February 2013: RT wins 17 awards at IFTAs and watched by over half a million viewers on RT One.

The 10th annual Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTAs) ceremony was watched by over half a million viewers (581,800 viewers on average)* and reached' over 1.2 million viewers (1,250,400)* when broadcast on Saturday night on RT One. RT won 17 awards, with Love/Hate and What Richard Did excelling in both their categories.

Speaking about RT 's success, Glen Killane, MDTV said: It was a great night for RT television with 17 awards won across key categories from drama, factual and sport. We're delighted the juries involved in this years IFTA acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the independent sector and RT 's in-house departments. For juries of our industry peers to vote for these productions highlights their popularity and the quality of the programme making. Congratulations to all the programme-makers and teams involved.

Love/Hate dominated in the drama category winning six awards in total. Jane Gogan, Commissioning Editor for RT Drama said: Its great for the work to be appreciated by the audience and to be appreciated by people in the industry gives us great satisfaction.

What Richard Did also impressed the jury and picked up 5 awards on the night. RT will broadcast What Richard Did early next year having acquired it at script stage from Element Films. Having done so well on its cinema release, it is expected to be a hit with television audiences too. The deal was done by Dermot Horan, Director of Broadcast and Acquisitions, RT and Andrew Lowe of Element Films.

The awards took place in Dublin's Convention Centre on Saturday night and was attended by the cream of Irish talent across film and television. The ceremony was presented by Simon Delaney and produced by IFTA in conjunction with RT .
