This move marks a significant growth milestone for the company, which continues to expand its global footprint. Blancco has been growing approximately 25% per year during the last five years, with 2012 being another year of exceptional growth.

There is an increasing demand for secure data erasure in Southeast Asia as awareness grows and legislative initiatives continue to focus a spotlight on the use of personal information for commercial purposes, said Alan Puah, Managing Director for Blancco SEA. The Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act was passed in 2010 and is scheduled to be effective January 1, 2013, further heightening the need for proper data erasure solutions and practices throughout the country.

Puah noted that Singapore has also passed a Personal Data Protection Act to regulate the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal data and to impose obligations on how businesses manage that data, how long they keep it and how they dispose of it. This is in keeping with rising awareness in Asia of the importance of data protection, he said. In the past two years, Taiwan and India have passed data protection legislation and Hong Kong has updated its personal data privacy laws.
