At IBC 2015, Vizrt featured live production story scripting, newsroom automation, IP and 4K workflows, social TV, sports enhancements and much more.
Video playout server with 4K and IP video
The latest version of Viz Engine functions as a multichannel graphics and video playout server for HD and 4K while also allowing IP video streaming in and out. It allows Vizrt's world-class graphics and video to be composited in real-time and output in a wide range of content formats for use online, on mobile devices or live on-air. With the optional centralised SAN clip playback, there's no need for file transfer - growing clips can be played back live on air. The system remains expandable - multiple GPUs can be added for more complex productions. The workflow uses Meta-graphics which allows journalists to add graphics to video in the newsroom from their native newsroom control system and keep them as metadata for further editing.
Viz Engine allows for streaming IP video in and out including J2K and SMPTE 2022-6. Graphics and video are composited in real-time and output as a stream that can take many formats-including MPEG-2 at 1080i/25, 1080i/29.97, 1080p/30 and 720p/50-for use online, on mobile devices and live on-air. The IT infrastructure makes Viz Engine highly portable for OB vans and very affordable for broadcasters.
Video on demand workflow with Viz Ones Coder
The latest version of Vizrt's market leading media asset management system Viz One - which is now certified to handle AS-11 DPP MXF metadata - was also showcased at IBC2015. The ease of delivery of VoD content variants when using Viz Ones latest-generation transcoding and encoding toolset Coder was also displayed at the show. The new workflow allows users to create stories by editing video and graphic items in their favorite non-linear editing system. These stories can also be created or enhanced in any of Vizrts video and graphics editors. The resulting stories are saved with clean video with Vizrts powerful Meta-graphics workflow.
Production using H.264
Viz One was demonstrated with new support for H.264 compressed streams as a production format and not just as a proxy. H.264 is particularly suited for online video production and for customers shooting with modern, smaller camera setups like DSLRs. Producing content with 10 Mbit H.264 can save up to ten times more disk space when compared to first generation HD codecs such as 100 Mbit DVCPRO HD. Viz One's support of this codec enables customer's storage to remain as cost effective as possible. It also allows them to to store significantly more media.
What's coming next from VizrtAt IBC2015, Vizrt unveiled a new HTML-based plugin for newsroom systems with an intelligent user interface compatible for mac and PC which gives journalists an easy-to-use tool for populating graphics templates, browsing and preparing videos and setting up automation controls and videowall presets. Editors were able to get a preview of a new graphics plugin for Final Cut Pro X which features the Vizrt Meta-graphics workflow which allows them to add Viz Engine-rendered graphics to the timeline and store them as metadata.
With the new Preview Desk tool, producers in the control room can now see all video assets in preview and on air. The tool allows on-the-fly editorial decisions to be made quickly during live production.
Studio automation in one box
Vizrt presented the latest version of Viz Opus, the compact control room system in a single box. The latest version of Viz Opus includes IP in/out capabilities, eight HD SDI inputs and four output channels including a clean feed. The system includes an optional customizable graphics package with transition logic built-in and supports the Meta-graphics workflow. Included in the demonstration at IBC 2015 was a tech preview of the ShowMaker tool. ShowMaker lets producers script content using an intuitive interface - perfect for live productions that need simple story scripting but dont have access to a full newsroom control room system. The new tool also integrates with Viz Pilot, allowing producers to easily access graphics templates and search video files in Viz One to add to show rundowns.
Total screen control in the studio
The latest version of Viz Multiplay was featured at IBC and has the ability to use multiple Viz Engines to drive high-resolution content to a number of video walls using a single interface. This development includes new tools for previewing video and graphics and a new HTML5-based graphics and video editor. A new video wall preset tool makes designing video wall presets easy with a live preview of the preset. Multiple inboxes are also supported as a way of easily getting content on screens from several sources.
Live virtual advertisement replacement
At IBC2015 Vizrt introduced tech preview of a new tool for live virtual advertising replacement, Viz Eclipse. Using Viz Eclipse, existing field-side advertising boards can now be replaced with realistic, virtual signage in real-time and throughout live gameplay. It gives content owners the ability to insert targeted and unobtrusive region-specific ads into television feeds. Watch the Vizrt Press conference video for more details on Viz Eclipse and the other tech previews presented during the show.
Sports analysis
Vizrt's booth at IBC2015 featured the latest version of sports analysis tool Viz Libero which provides live integration with Viz Engine. This creates eye-catching telestration graphics and animations while giving operators access to real-time preview and playout. The introduction of support for the Evertz DreamCatcher completes Viz Libero's workflow integration with all major video servers. Viz Libero integration with Opta was also displayed. This new solution provides users with Opta event data from live and archived games to quickly an
