The new generation broadband grows 30% in Spain and is now the 18.35 million accesses Las redes de nueva generaci n (NGA por sus siglas en ingl s) permiten alcanzar velocidades de banda ancha de m s de 30 megas e incluyen las tecnolog as de fibra ptica hasta el hogar (FTTH), cable coaxial DOCSIS 3.0 y VDSL.

Los accesos instalados de banda ancha de nueva generaci n han aumentado en Espa a un 30% hasta los 18,35 millones, seg n se desprende del informe de Geographical analysis of the services of broadband and deployment of NGA in Spain con datos de junio de 2013.

Las redes de nueva generaci n (NGA por sus siglas en ingl s) permiten alcanzar velocidades de banda ancha de m s de 30 megas e incluyen las tecnolog as de fibra ptica hasta el hogar (FTTH), cable coaxial DOCSIS 3.0 y VDSL.

Se estima que la mitad de la poblaci n tiene cobertura de al menos una red de nueva generaci n. En Madrid y Barcelona, la cobertura aumenta hasta 8 de cada 10 personas.

Del total de accesos de nueva generaci n instalados, algo menos del 8% est n activos. Es decir, 1,4 millones de accesos con velocidades de m s de 30 megas est n efectivamente contratados por los usuarios.

Geographical distribution

En cuanto al an lisis desglosado por municipios, la cuota de mercado de Telef nica en banda ancha ha ca do entre 0,6 y 2,4 puntos porcentuales en funci n del tama o del municipio. Las nicas excepciones son Madrid y Barcelona, en los que la cuota de Telef nica ha aumentado 1,5 y 0,9 puntos porcentuales respectivamente por el impulso del despliegue de FTTH.

Por su parte, la cuota de los operadores alternativos ha subido entre 1,1 y 3 puntos porcentuales seg n el tama o del municipio, con la excepci n de Madrid y Barcelona (-0,8 y -0,6, respectivamente). La cuota de mercado de los operadores de cable ha ca do en pr cticamente todos los tipos de municipios.

A nivel nacional continu el incremento de los accesos de banda ancha impulsado por los notables niveles de captaci n de los operadores alternativos a trav s del servicio de desagregaci n del bucle y por una recuperaci n del volumen de accesos de Telef nica debido a una ganancia neta de l neas FTTH.

Las l neas de banda ancha activas con velocidad de conexi n de 30 Mbps o superior alcanz la cifra de 1,4 millones de accesos, que representa un porcentaje del 12% sobre el total del mercado de banda ancha.

En el an lisis geogr fico por municipios, se observa una tendencia clara a un incremento en la cuota de mercado de Telef nica a medida que se reduce el tama o del municipio, as como una menor penetraci n de accesos de banda ancha por cada 100 habitantes. Por otra parte, Telef nica experiment un avance en su cuota de accesos en los municipios de Madrid y Barcelona por el impulso en el despliegue de su red de fibra hasta el hogar (FTTH). El total de accesos activos de FTTH alcanz la cifra de 419 mil accesos (el 4% del mercado de banda ancha) frente a los 236.000 existentes en junio de 2012. Estos accesos se concentraron principalmente en Madrid, Barcelona y algunos municipios de tama o medio.

El an lisis de la cobertura de las redes fijas NGA refleja que en los municipios de 100 mil habitantes o de mayor tama o se super el 60% de cobertura (sobre la poblaci n). Las m s altas se alcanzaron en los municipios de Barcelona y Madrid con coberturas del 83,1% y del 81,5%, respectivamente. En estos dos ltimos municipios el impulso de la cobertura de redes NGA fue proporcionado por la red de fibra FTTH desplegada por Telef nica.

En los municipios de entre 100.000 y un mill n de habitantes el elevado porcentaje de cobertura se debi a la presencia de accesos HFC DOCSIS 3.0. Finalmente, en los municipios con poblaci n inferior a 10 mil habitantes, el VDSL capaz de proporcionar 30 Mbps fue la red NGA m s significativa.

A nivel nacional, se estima que el porcentaje de poblaci n cubierta por alguna red fija NGA alcanz el 49,4% (23,3 millones de habitantes) frente al 41% de junio de 2012. Este volumen de conexiones elev la penetraci n de la banda ancha a las 25 l neas por cada 100 habitantes, frente a las 23,8 l neas de junio de 2012.

La tecnolog a xDSL continu como principal modo de acceso a la banda ancha con casi 9,1 millones de l neas (77,8% del total de accesos). Por su parte, las l neas de banda ancha a trav s de cable H brido Fibra-Coaxial (HFC) se mantuvieron pr cticamente estables y se situaron en los 2,07 millones de conexiones. Cabe se alar, que el total de accesos activos HFC DOCSIS 3.0 sumaron 2,34 millones considerando aquellos accesos sobre los que se presta cualquier servicio, telefon a fija, audiovisual o banda ancha, bien sea aisladamente o en combinaci n con otro. De estos, 2,07 dispon an del servicio de banda ancha.

Finalmente, cabe destacar el incremento de las l neas activas de FTTH, reflejo de las inversiones en el despliegue de redes de fibra que est n llevando a cabo los operadores. La cifra se situ en los 449.000 accesos activos, un 85,5% m s que los existentes en junio de 2012 y la gran mayor a correspondientes a Telef nica.

Los principales aumentos se observaron en los operadores alternativos de xDSL con 353.000 nuevos accesos y en Telef nica, que vio compensada la p rdida de l neas de xDSL con el aumento de las de FTTH.
