1. Video Can Be Everywhere The world is still a big place and unfortunately the average training budget does not stretch to visiting all of a large organization's locations to train employees face to face. As the world's time zones make it anti-social to deliver live training via video conferencing - not to mention the agonizing problems of video conferencing, sharing pre-recorded video of your training is the next best thing.
Whilst delegates can't ask questions live during the session, there are some great advantages for the corporate enterprise in delivering learning in this way. Keeping costs down is a given, but how about ensuring all training is delivered consistently, on-brand and on-message every time?
Assuming you've got a sure-fire way of delivering the video content to everyone that needs it, you can even analyze who watched the content and for how long to ensure messages have been safely delivered to the right people. You can't guarantee the audience will actually listen, but nor can you in a live classroom environment, right?!
2. Video Engages Like Nothing Else Without just doling out the much-overused a picture is worth a thousand words' clich , it has long been accepted in training and development circles that the brain finds it easier to comprehend messages in visual form, rather than through verbal communication.
Video is often used to reinforce learning in conjunction with other traditional training mediums, but how many trainers are producing their own video to convey the very specific learning that it wishes to pass on? Corporate training is starting to look at video as a viable method for providing learning modules to a vast number of staff.
3. Video Tells The Story Storytelling is a popular method in training as it is scientifically proven to both engage the learner and make the lesson more memorable. So any training material delivered via video should also look to offer some sort of narrative.
A strong video narrative will not only make the investment in video training more worthwhile, but it will also help give the video a quality more akin to professional television broadcasting. We've all experienced the pain of a badly produced training video!
4. Video Offers Organization-wide Consistency Consider the Training Director faced with the challenge of informing tens of thousands of staff across the world about a new product or feature update. Time is probably not on their side, and it's important that everyone learns at the same time, and that they all hear the same message.
Localized training can't ensure that every member of staff receives exactly the same information, so there's a risk that the organization's customer will get slightly different information. Worse case scenario - an organization's global customer base is confused and starts to doubt a trusted brand.
Video is the sure fire way to ensure this problem doesn't happen.
5. Video Makes Learning Fun It's the nature of any human born from the mid 19th Century onwards to expect video to be entertaining. Generations have grown up with the expectation that the moving image will make them laugh, make them cry, take them away from the real world and allowing their brains to be carried somewhere else.
So it stands to reason that anyone using video in training must ensure that the learner enjoys the experience. Not only will their capacity for content be increased, but also the knowledge shared stands more of a chance of being retained.
6. Video Is Not As Expensive As You Think In recent years the cost of video has fallen dramatically due to maturity in the video equipment market combined with a rapid rise in general production values. The latest phones can now shoot 4K video, which is way better than most TV companies can manage right now!
Once your training masterpiece has been filmed, large organizations are turning to the Cloud to store, move, share and generally manage their video library. Cloud solutions offer so much flexibility and agility that it makes sense to consider an online video platform, rather than investing in rapidly out-dated on-premise technology.
