Tribeca Film Acquires the TFF 0 Award-Winning the Broken Circle Breakdown

Look for a late 2013 release for Felix Van Groeningen's bluegrass-infused Belgian drama that mesmerized audiences at this year's Festival.

Tribeca Film is thrilled to announce its acquisition of the U.S rights to The Broken Circle Breakdown, winner of two prizes (Best Screenplay for a Narrative Feature Film and Best Actress in a Narrative Feature Film for Veerle Bartens) at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. Co-written by Carol Joos and director Felix van Groeningen, this romantic melodrama follows the courtship of two artists as they fall in love and start a future together.

It's love at first sight for quirky tattoo artist Elise (Bartens) and bluegrass musician Didier (Johan Heldenbergh). The two bond over their shared enthusiasm for American music and culture and dive headfirst into a sweeping romance that plays out on and off stage but when an unexpected tragedy hits their new family, everything they know and love is tested.

An intensely moving portrait of a relationship from beginning to end, The Broken Circle Breakdown, propelled by a soundtrack of foot-stomping bluegrass, is one crow-pleasing, tear-jerking filmic experience.

Geoffrey Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer Tribeca Enterprises on the acquisition: Through flashbacks and flash-forwards, director van Groeningen seamlessly weaves a tapestry, detailing the story of a marriage and the pleasure and tragedy of being alive.

Including a limited theatrical release later this year, The Broken Circle Breakdown will be available through on-demand and digital platforms.
