South African Indies at the Cannes Film Festival

The Association for Transformation in Film and TV will lead a delegation of black South African filmmakers to the 67th annual Cannes Film Festival, made possible by The department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The festival runs from the 14th to the 25th of May 2014.

After conducting a successful run of Market Readiness Workshops' in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town; the ATFT along with a 16 member delegation of filmmakers is ready to embark on a trade mission to the biggest and most glamorous film festival and feature film market in the world.

The South African delegation, who will be present under the SA Indies banner, consists mainly of emerging filmmakers who will showcase and sell their films and garner foreign investment and distribution for their projects in various stages of development or production, forge co-production partnerships, and also develop new audiences for South African content.

ATFT is proud to announce that delegation member Gambit Films' produced short film, The Briefcase' Written and Directed By Gambit Films duo Travis Taute and Daryne Joshua, will be playing at the Cannes International Film Festival 2014 Short Film Corner.

ATFT will be using the South African pavilion organised by the NFVF for the distribution of a catalogue of companies and productions in attendance and promote South African companies there under the SA Indies banner. ATFT will also host a networking cocktail function at the SA pavilion on the 19th of May from 5 - 7pm, where we will be inviting distributors, sales agents and international producers to meet the South African delegation.

ATFT has also enrolled South African producers with previous theatrical release(s) into the Producer's Network which only hosts 550 producers from around the world for a series of meetings and unique events specifically designed to stimulate international co-production and optimize networking. Producers without a theatrical release will be enrolled into the Producers Workshop Program, a program specifically designed for producers who are starting on the international scene.
