Entertainment commentator Kgopolo Mphela has reported that Mzansi Magic's Idols SA is continuing to lose some viewers even with the introduction of the new judges, Thembi Seete and JR Afrika.

Some people argued that the show was losing viewers because Somizi was not part of Season 17 but even with his return, the show continues to be a major flop.

The new season peaked at 744K viewers back in July a far cry from seasons past debut. August did not fair any better, with the new show heading into its LIVE shows and only peaking at 662K viewers, Phil said on Twitter.

LOAD-SHEDDING TO BLAME FOR IDOLS FLOPPING? With South Africa's electricity crisis, it can be argued that most people are unable to watch the riveting singing competition.

The decline trend has continued into September with the show losing over 100K viewers for their top episode of the month. The show also peaked at a disappointing 542K

Phil did however try to defend the show's decline in numbers by stating, To be fair, with the competition from streamers and the disinterest of viewers from appointment TV viewing and linear television in general, overall ratings across channels have fallen .

Eskom is also dealing television a huge blow with load-shedding! With all that, it would be remise of us to just blame the redundancy of the show on viewers being tired of the show alone .

WAS JR AND THEMBI A MISTAKE? Viewers of the singing competition are putting the blame on the show's new judges, JR and Thembi.

I like Thembi and JR but hayi shame. Big mistake having those two on the judging panel. That's my 2 cents, said @lungaedison on Twitter.

@Mam_Bhele also weighed in and said, The show ain't entertaining anymore plus the new judges hayi no shame they need to go back to the drawing board . Plus they dropped the singing standard noticed this during the audition rounds, they gave golden tickets to people who can't sing .
