Broadcasters begin moving licences away from the UK

A number of broadcasters have already made the move in anticipation of Brexit

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), 21st Century Fox, and Viceland have started moving their broadcast licenses from the UK in anticipation of Brexit.

Seeking an alternative, VIMN has secured licences in The Netherlands for its range of channels aimed at France, MTV (France), MTV Hits (France), Paramount Channel (France), BET (France), Nickelodeon (France), Nickelodeon Junior (France) and Nickelodeon Teen (France).

21st Century Fox has licensed National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild in Spain, as well as the Dutch language versions of Fox and National Geographic Channel intended for Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. Viceland is now using a Dutch licence for its Dutch and Belgian (Dutch language) channels.

With the UK currently a part of the European Union's single market, more than 750 channels based in Britain and licenced by media regulator Ofcom can currently broadcast throughout the EU without restriction, but this is all set to change after Brexit.

A number of other channel providers with bases in Britain are expected to follow suit, including Discovery, Disney, the Modern Times Group, and Turner Broadcasting.
