Wednesday, May 31 State of the Industry: Collegiate Leaders Address the Industry's Opportunities and Challenges
Open the 2023 SVG College Summit with our annual State of Industry session where key athletic department video production leaders from schools of all sizes reflect on the year that was and offer a peek at what they are working on in the year to come. Technology investments. Storytelling. Staff management. Departmental expectations. Student staffing. This big-picture panel will touch on it all and set the stage for this year's event.
Thursday, June 1 The New Control Room? Production Facilities in the Age of Remote Production and The Cloud
Centralized control rooms, trailers, and even fly packs are the established norm across collegiate athletic departments. As the greater broadcast industry evolves to utilize more remote (or REMI) production and cloud-based workflows, in what ways does that make us rethink the facilities that we call home? From switchers to comms to replay, graphics, audio, and everything in between, live production leaders share their takes on new flexibilities available in live production.
Send in the Drones: Efficiently Bringing Aerial Coverage to Your Live Games
Across all levels of sports broadcasting, live drones are delivering truly unique visuals and providing truly eye-catching images to integrate into live game coverage. What technologies are needed to make the shot and, most importantly, what steps do you need to take to ensure you use drones safely - and legally? Live college producers who have done so, share their experiences.
When Linear Comes Calling: Producing Games For Your Broadcast Partner
In a testament to how far this industry has come, live production teams on campus are being entrusted more frequently by their linear broadcast partners to produce live games for their air. How do you prepare differently - if at all - for a linear game? What technologies and services have come up clutch for you? How does it affect staffing? How do you manage relationships with your linear broadcast partner? And what other key issues should you consider when this exciting opportunity arises - whether it's scheduled or sudden?
What's New in Game Pres?: The Latest in Stadium and Arena Videoboards
While live production of games for broadcast has become the bread and butter of many athletic department media teams, more big screens are popping up on more venues across campus. As boards get bigger, the resolution gets sharper, and more is expected of the game presentation experience, what is the current state of the videoboard show in collegiate athletics? Game pres pros from schools of all sized share how they keep the in-venue experience a top priority.
Breakout Track 1: Large Athletic Departments
More demands from our linear partners. Bigger videoboards and larger crowds at our venues. Higher expectations. Our departments may be well-oiled content machines but what pain points are holding us back and what opportunities are primed for us to take advantage of? For the second consecutive year, we are happy to bring back this in-depth open forum where professionals from Power 5 conference schools can come together and share their best practices, compare notes, and share general advice. Key members of the SVG College Advisory Committee will lead the conversation but this breakout is designed for full audience participation.
Breakout Track 2: Mid-Size Athletic Departments
Fair or not, our jobs come with high expectations. Regardless of department size and available resources, schools are annually tasked with the huge task of producing hundreds of live games for their media partners - and a lot more. For the second consecutive year, we are happy to bring back this in-depth open forum where professionals from mid-major and small conference schools can come together and share their common pain points, best practices, and overall advice. Key members of the SVG College Advisory Committee will lead the conversation but this breakout is designed for full audience participation.
Speakers TBA. Sessions subject to change.
Come be a part of the fun, network and learn from some of the very best in the business, browse some cutting-edge and budget-friendly technology, and be a part of our growing community.
There's more information to come of the event's agenda, the SVG College Sports Media Awards competition, and much more. In the meantime, you can watch video of all of the sessions from last year's event over at SVG PLAY.
