Fujifilm receives CE mark on new Portable X-ray Unit FDR Xair , launching in Europe
06.07.2020
Fujifilm Europe GmbH is pleased to announce that FUJIFILM Corporation has received the CE mark for its new FDR Xair lightweight portable X-ray unit, weighing just 3.5kg. The FDR Xair X-ray unit will be launched in Europe from June 2020*1. The FDR Xair unit is designed to meet the growing use of medical intervention at home for an aging population. In addition, it will respond to the rapidly increasing global demand for portable X-ray devices to support effective procedures at medical sites*2 including during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The FDR Xair X-ray unit was originally developed with a focus on domiciliary care launched in Japan in October 2018. It is lightweight, compact, and has a built-in battery which can be used with or without a power source. With its excellent portability and operability, it has been utilized in the areas of visiting patient's home, nursing care and emergency medical care.
By combining it with Fujifilm's FDR D-EVO II DR cassette, high-quality X-ray images can be acquired even at a low dose. The FDR D-EVO II cassette utilizes the ISS method*3 and Noise Reduction Circuit*4 which are Fujifilm's special-image processing technologies.
In international markets, it is expected to be used not only for medical practice at home but also for portable radiography in isolation wards to assist in preventing viral infection. Fujifilm aims to contribute to reducing the burden placed on doctors and medical staffs here they to carry X-ray devices to conduct examinations, as well as reducing the radiation exposure dose for patients compared to Fujifilm's conventional products..
*The FDR Xair X-ray unit has won various design awards, including Red Dot Award 2019 , IDEA 2019 , iF DESIGN AWARD 2019 , and Index Award 2019 for its practical design that contributes to the improvement of medical care beyond its stylish body. The distinctiveness characteristics of the FDR Xair unit is not only in the external design, but also in its simplicity and the intuitive operability for portable X-ray examinations in unusual medical environments.
Providing the FDR Xair X-ray unit to Stop TB Partnership*5 (STBP) Fujifilm started to provide the FDR Xair unit to the organization Stop TB Partnership for their study to control tuberculosis (TB) mainly in Asian and African regions. With the support of STBP, Pakistani NGO, DOPASI has started a TB screening trial using the FDR Xair unit in 2020* . In a joint effort towards making progress to End TB , Fujifilm and STBP will continue to support the expansion of TB screening using the FDR Xair unit, utilizing resources from The Global Fund and other organizations.
Fujifilm will continue to meet the growing need for portable X-ray in medical sites by providing the FDR Xair and the Cassette DR in an increased number of countries.
1 Local regulations will be complied with in each country before the sales can start.
2 Based on FUJIFILM-internal investigations
3 Equipped with Fujifilm's proprietary Irradiated Side Sampling (ISS) technology, which positions its capture electronics (TFTs) at the irradiation side, in contrast to traditional detectors. This design significantly suppresses scattering and attenuation of X-ray signals, improving efficiency to produce sharper images at lower doses compared to conventional methods.
4 Fujifilm's developed noise reduction circuit reduces noise in the image.
