After a two-year absence, SVG returned to Tokyo for the 2025 SVG Japan Forum, held on Feb. 20 at Amazon Web Services Japan. More than 160 people attended the event, partaking in panel discussions, presentations, and networking.
More than 160 sports-production professionals attended the 2025 SVG Japan Forum on Feb. 20.
Japan is integral to the global sports-production marketplace, said Ken Kerschbaumer, global editorial director, SVG. Cameras and lenses from Sony, Panasonic, Ikegami, JVC, Canon, Fujinon, and others are part of nearly every sports production around the globe. Being here to celebrate the Japanese sports industry is always a wonderful event. He provided an update on global trends in cloud and generative AI alongside Paul Devlin, principal and business development manager, global sports, AWS, and Mathieu Aichmayer, managing director, APAC region, Eurovision.
A networking reception allowed attendees of the SVG Japan Forum a chance to catch up and exchange business cards.
Broadcast executives from Tokyo Broadcast System Television, WOWOW Entertainment, Asahi Television Broadcasting, and AbemaTV discussed the future of remote (and REMI) production, and representatives of Pacific League Marketing, Japan Rugby Marketing, and Basketball Corp. offered a league perspective on the future of sports-production technology.
Among other highlights, Rick Asahina, senior director, TVU Networks, delved into the use of 5G for the Paris Torch Replay and Red Bull Wings for Life World Run, and Anna Yokota, online distribution coordinator/broadcast rights negotiator, Japan Rugby Football Union, provided an overview of that sport's governing body.
