Networked Media task force seeks user stories

The new international task force on networked media has kicked off its work with a call for users to submit their requirements in the form of user stories.

The new EBU/SMPTE/VSF Task Force on Networked Media (JT-NM) has wasted no time in getting under way with its work. This international initiative is tasked with defining technologies for an all-over networked production environment encompassing live and file-based workflows.

User Stories JT-NM aims to publish a request for technology by mid-September and has asked users to submit their requirements over the coming weeks. The request specifically asks for "user stories", with contributors being asked to forumlate their requirements in terms of a media production role, a desired functionality, and the business value it would add.

The EBU has already played a key role in the creation of the task force, and now invites its Members to submit their stories. This phase represents an excellent opportunity for public service media to ensure that their particular needs and requirements are taken into account as JT-NM moves forward.

The deadline for the submission of user stories has been extended to Monday 1 July 2013. They can be submitted directly to JT-NM using this form: tinyurl.com/bn47279

New technology and standardization The user requirements gathered will feed into the creation of a request for technology. This will be followed by a gap analysis which will trigger the development of new technology and standardization activities. The outcomes of the work will be instrumental in the generation of technology to emerge over the next 3-5 years.
