Malusi Gigaba is no longer a cabinet member. He resigned from his position as home affairs minister on Tuesday, saying that he was stepping aside for the sake of our country .
It comes after a devastating month or so for Gigaba, who has had his name dragged through the mud. Sex, lies and Parliamentary debates have hung him out to dry. But to leave in a scandal is perhaps fitting for the former minister, who basically made a career out of living dangerously.

Gupta naturalisation They are citizens, but they're not citizens, but some of them are, but one isn't. Got that? No, not many of us did until Malusi Gigaba had to come clean and admit he misled South African about the Gupta brothers' naturalisation status. It took several attempts to clear up and exposed his love of fibs.
When he let his wife do his work Maybe he can't solely be blamed for this one, but when our Norma committed to an interview with eNCA, it was anything but the standard puff-piece usually reserved for politicians' partners. She ended up revealing the most, and here's how we reported it back in 2017:

Expenses, expenses It really does look like Malusi and Norma are two partners in crime, here. A large number of his scandals revolve around trying to impress his wife. Make no mistake, though: Gigabyte is the architect of his own downfall.
During Gigaba's many trips to international investor roadshows, he decided to bring Norma along for the ride. There's nothing wrong with that, but she did end up clocking an R800 000 tab for expenses . Jeez guys, could you please stay in a Best Western next time?
Running up a R794 million bill When the home affairs department needed a huge technology overhaul during Gigaba's first term, he went all out. However, he never got round to paying for the service. A non-payment of around R70 million to IT company Double Ring Trading ended up sending the company into liquidation.
They have been fighting a legal battle for the best part of a decade to get back their money, plus another R724 million. Double Ring wants to take Malusi Gigaba and the government to the cleaners. Shame, did Malusi ever think of just asking Norma to do the upgrades?
Lying under oath Alas, the straw that broke the camel's back. Gigaba backed out of a deal to give Fireblade Aviation a private terminal at OR Tambo, resulting in a court case being levelled against him. He claimed no deal was ever in place, but the courts disagreed with him. As did public protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
Last Wednesday, Mkhwebane and ConCourt both upheld the decision that Gigabyte lied in court. It would prove to be his eventual downfall, forcing him to resign six days later.
Sex tape Years from now whether Malusi Gigaba is a footnote in our political history, or if the ANC have recycled him into another top position like they do with all their rejects this is what he will be remembered for.
Not for any of his political or ethical shortcomings. But for getting his nob out on camera. It's a sad way to go, Malusi. But at least you'll go down as the first cabinet member of South African to be featured on PornHub. Silver linings, and all that.
