SABC local content forms large part of top 30 TV shows in SA --

On 7 May 2015, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) announced that its television programmes ranked at the top in terms of viewership figures.
According to the Broadcast Research Council (BRC), through its television audience measurement system (TAMS) the SABC s flagship programme, Generations, The Legacy, which is broadcast on SABC 1, is fast regaining the high audience share its predecessor regularly enjoyed. In the past three months the programme s share among all adults at 20h00 has risen from 46% to 54%.
SABC1 s new local drama, Uzalo has also revived the channel s popular 20h30 slot growing share of adult viewing in that slot from 35% to 48% in the past three months. Indications are that the programme is still growing audiences even reaching as much as 51% on 8 April 2015.
The SABC continues to dominate the Top 30 programme rankings in the country, with its content making up 90% of the list of the nation s most loved television.
All the public service broadcaster s top local dramas are in the top 10, with the prime time news bulletins in isiZulu and isiXhosa completing that list. Even repeat programming makes the Top 30 rankings! In the month under review April 2015 the SABC s live coverage of key events such as the clash between Sundowns and Chiefs as well as the 2015 SAMA Awards confirms the broadcaster s place in the viewing plans of the nation.
