ales Canada awarded Ottawa LRT Signalling Contract

Toronto, February 28, 2013: Thales Canada announced that its Transportation Solutions business unit located in Toronto has received an order to supply advanced signalling for the new Ottawa LRT: The Confederation Line.

Thales will supply its world-leading Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system technology. The Toronto office will design, build and maintain the systems, and support its installation and commissioning.

Following the early adoption of our revolutionary CBTC technology on the Toronto SRT and Vancouver SkyTrain Expo Line in 1985, we have led the charge globally to change the way signalling is perceived and applied to urban rail networks to deliver greater operational performance while improving safety and reliability. In Canada over the years, we addedSkyTrain's Millennium and Canada Lines and we are now working on Edmonton Transit's North LRT and Vancouver's Evergreen Line. The CBTC system is semi-automated, which includes automatic train supervision and protection technology to assist drivers with safe and reliable operation. The train storage yard will be fully automated allowing driverless capability.

Thales Canada's CBTC system has been proven worldwide on over 55 projects to date and operates on over 1,300 km of track in major urban centers around the world, carrying an estimated 3 billion passengers annually.

The Ottawa LRT east-west Confederation Line' is 12.5 km long operating from Blair to Tunney's Pasture serving 13 stations. It is scheduled to open in 2018 and will be designed and built by the Rideau Transit Group consortium.
