ALASKA ACHIEVES SCTE CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD

APRIL 10, 2014 (Exton, PA) The Alaska Chapter is the SCTE Chapter of the Year for its supreme level of excellence demonstrated throughout 2013, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced today.

Among the ways it distinguished itself, the Alaska Chapter implemented a virtual training program for the entire state of Alaska and experienced a 260 percent increase in attendance. The Alaska Chapter, which is based in Anchorage, is led by Markus Kofoid, the chapter's president. Kofoid was co-recipient of the SCTE Chapter Member of the Year Award for 2009. He is an OSP design engineer with GCI Communications.

SCTE honored the finest among its 68 chapters and meetings groups based on 2013 performance during the 13th Annual SCTE Chapter Awards Dinner Wednesday evening in Charlotte, N.C., as part of SCTE Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) 2014. CommScope sponsored the awards dinner. At CLC, which got underway Wednesday afternoon and concludes this evening, attendees are sharing best practices, exchanging ideas, and celebrating successes through a series of seminars, panel presentations, and powerful networking sessions.

SCTE also presented awards for second- through eighth-place Chapter of the Year. Those honorees were: Razorback Chapter (second); Golden Gate Chapter (third); Llano Estacado Chapter (fourth); New England Chapter (fifth); Dakota Territory Chapter (sixth); San Diego Chapter (seventh); and Mount Rainier Chapter (eighth). The Most Improved Chapter of the Year honors went to the Show Me Chapter.

The annual SCTE Chapter Awards also include the Compliance, Recruitment, Striving for Excellence, and Professional Development awards; a Most Improved Chapter in each of those categories is also honored. The winning chapters were:

Compliance Award: Alaska Chapter and Razorback Chapter (tie); Most Improved: Cascade Range Chapter

Recruitment Award: Mount Rainier Chapter; Most Improved: Greater Chicago Chapter

Striving for Excellence Award: Razorback Chapter; Most Improved: Dixie Chapter

Professional Development Award: Alaska Chapter; Most Improved: Sam Houston Chapter

Additionally, SCTE presented a Chapter Achievement Certificate to the Piedmont Chapter and the Southern California Chapter.

SCTE Chapter Awards are earned based on an objective points system. The SCTE Chapter Member of the Year Award, which includes a traditional nominations process, will be announced in the near future.
