Universal.Com India Adds DiGiCo SD0 To Audio Arsenal

Universal.Com, India has been in the live sound reinforcement business for over 10 years. Based in Kolkata, West Bengal, the company handles touring and live needs for both corporate and music clientele. The company recently purchased its first DiGiCo system, an SD10 and two D2-Racks, from DiGiCo's India distributor, Hi-Tech Audio Systems Pvt. Ltd., of New Delhi, adding to its varied analogue and digital arsenal.

We quickly decided to add an SD10 to our inventory due to our growing list of clients, which include festivals, orchestras, musical productions and corporate events.

Of late, engineers and sound designers have specifically started to ask for DiGiCo consoles for their performances. The SD10 and D2-Rack combination provides a very important solution of splitting input channels and has independent head amp gain control for FOH and monitor applications without using an analogue split snake system. The new D2-Rack delivered with the system has 48 mic/line inputs and 32 outputs, all working at 24bit/48kHz or 96kHz. Connection of the D2 is via BNC MADI.

In fact, our experience with DiGiCo consoles has always been very good, adds Mr. Nirdosh Aggarwal, Director Sales, Hi-Tech Audio Systems. We found the number of input and output channels really impressive and at the moment the DiGiCo SD10 is one of the most rider-compatible consoles in the industry.

Training on the SD10 was provided by Mr. Humayun Atiq, DiGiCo Pro Specialist from Hi-Tech Audio Systems Pvt. Ltd., who adds, I have been using DiGiCo consoles for many years and it has always been smooth sailing. Also, I use most of the DiGiTuBes and dynamic EQs for added control of overlay dynamic channels. Being based on open architecture, the user can program the board in any manner and is not bound to fixed layers. The microphone preamps are the cleanest one would hear on a live mixing board. This DiGiCo desk is amazingly analogue sounding. I use almost everything onboard and it's a fairly straightforward approach.

As a sound rental company, we need to offer the best products to our clients, says Mr. Biswas. This has been an awesome addition to our inventory. Just a few days after the investment in the new system, it was put to use on a live concert with one of India's most up and coming singers, Arijit Singh, in Guwahati and also in Bangladesh. And it sounded fantastic!

The digital processing has great clarity, the preamplifiers are high quality, the workflow is straightforward and the MADI system is really useful. On top of all that, the console has a great price.
