Press room The Furia european project appears at the 3GSM World Congress Abertis Telecom coordinates this project to analyse second generation DTT
Abertis Telecom is the event s official mobile TV network supplier
Barcelona, February 14th, 2007 abertis telecom, Spains leading telecommunications infrastructure and services operator and official mobile TV network supplier for the 3GSM World Congress, is coordinating the FURIA project members presence at the current edition of the 3GSM World Congress which is being held at the Fira de Barcelona conference centre from 12 to 15 February.
The FURIA (Future Integrated Audiovisual Network) project, which is coordinated by abertis telecom, aims, through the creation of a Spanish consortium, to analyse and evaluate emerging audiovisual broadcast technologies: broadcasting multimedia content for mobile handsets (DVB-H), broadcasting multimedia content to mobile handsets using hybrid terrestrial and satellite (DVB-HS) networks and the second generation of Digital Terrestrial Television (DVB-T2).
The FURIA project s role in the 3GSM World Congress
Hispasat: will provide necessary satellite coverage to broadcast via four DVB-H satellite platforms. The aim is to enhance validation results for DVB-H technology via satellite, and present them at various Spanish and European conferences.
Ingenier a Salle-Universitat Ramon Llull: will work alongside abertis telecom to create an interoperability laboratory for the event, taking advantage of the presence of mobile telephone manufacturers from all over the world. This will provide the various manufacturers access to the laboratory equipment they will need and the pre-recorded and on-line signals for the four DVB-H platforms to configure their equipment before the event begins. The FURIA consortium hopes that valuable performance and compatibility results can be drawn from the laboratory tests.
Sidsa: will contribute its DVB-H platform.
Mier Comunicaciones and Egatel: will provide transmitters and rebroadcasters to cover the event.
Communitv y Robotiker Tecnalia: will cooperate in providing information about the project in the event.
Fagor Electr nica and Telev s: will provide resources for receiving DTT content.
The FURIA project, which was initiated in June 2006 with a 9mn budget, is expected to last for two and a half years.
It is sponsored by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade via the PROFIT 2006 initiative within the Avanza Plan - in the section covering the promotion of Spanish technological platforms. This comes under the auspices of e-NEM, whose Secretariat is provided by AETIC (the Spanish Technological, Information and Telecommunications Companies Association). The project is also co-financed by the European Union via the FEDER funds.
The FURIA project consortium comprises 25 companies and bodies representing the Spanish audiovisual and telecommunications sector, who share an interest in implementing new audiovisual technologies and boosting Spains position in the Information Society.
