KCETLink Presents CCTV Americas New Environmental Documentary, Tipping Point: the Amazon

BURBANK, Calif. - May 21, 2014 - KCETLink, the national independent transmedia network, presents TIPPING POINT: THE AMAZON, a new documentary from CCTV America, the American division of China Central Television, exploring the survival of the Amazon amidst Brazils rapid economic growth. The film will premiere on KCET (Southern California) on June 6, 2014 at 9 p.m. PT and on Link TV (DirecTV 375 and DISH Network 9410) on June 7 at 8 p.m. PT/ET.

South Americas largest nation, Brazil, is home to the worlds largest tropical rain forest. The Amazon River Basin holds 20% of the worlds freshwater and produces 20% of its oxygen - it plays a major role in stabilizing the earths ecosystem, but that balance is shifting. Production and profit for a fast-growing economy jeopardizes the preservation of Amazonia.

TIPPING POINT: THE AMAZON follows CCTV America correspondent Sean Callebs across the Amazon from Macapa to Manaus, as well as from Altamira to Parauapebas to reveal the people and the eco-system that supports them. Callebs examines the construction of the extraordinary Belo Monte Dam on the Xingu River in the state of Par , during an extensive month-long investigation in late 2013, where he meets with governors, industrialists, eco-warriors and ordinary people about the condition of region. He also profiles the Kayapo people and even meets a giant anaconda.

The film was shot by award-winning videographer Andrew Smith, who also served as editor for which he was awarded first place in the television magazine editing category at the National Press Photographers Associations 2014 Best Of Photojournalism Video Photography and Video Editing contest.

Callebs is a veteran correspondent who joined CCTV America in 2012 after 20 years as a correspondent for CNN.
