Studios Now Able to Deliver Content in Immersive DTS Surround Sound on UltraViolet Platform
CALABASAS, Calif. (December 11, 2012) DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio and audio enhancement technologies, today announced that several leading content solution providers, including Digital Rapids, Elemental Technologies, and Rovi, now support DTS Express surround sound for creation of content in the UltraViolet Common File Format (CFF). DTS Express, part of the DTS-HD family of audio solutions found on nearly all Blu-ray Disc movies, is fully optimized for digitally delivered content, providing a high-quality immersive surround sound experience with the UltraViolet CFF.
"The way the world consumes entertainment is rapidly evolving and UltraViolet is a great example of the kinds of services emerging from this shift," said Brian Towne, chief operating officer and executive vice president at DTS. "While the content sources may be changing, the demands and expectations for quality are not, which is why we are thrilled to be working with content solutions providers to ensure that consumers receive the same high-quality DTS audio experience that theyve come to know and demand, directly from UltraViolet-enabled content."
"The industrys development and phase-in of the UltraViolet Common File Format will bring substantial added benefits to UltraViolet users, and to the industry," said Mark Teitell, general manager of the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE), the industry organization behind UltraViolet. "DTS has been among the leaders in investing expertise and resources to help bring CFF to market."
DTS Express is a high performance adaptive bit rate technology that delivers an impressive cinematic surround sound experience from content, whether streamed or downloaded. With the ability to adapt to bit rate changes without audio dropouts, clicks or pops, as noticed with competing audio solutions, DTS Express shines when bandwidth is limited and network conditions fluctuate.
DTS Express provides:
Constant bit-rates from 64 kbps (2 Channel) and up
5.1 channels from 160 kbps to 512 kbps
Supports up to 7.1 channelsfrom 288 kbps to 768 kbps
Adaptive bit rate capability (without audio anomalies)
Backwards compatibility with all legacy products via the DTS real-time transcoder
DECEs UltraViolet platform gives consumers greater flexibility in how and where they collect, share and enjoy movies and TV shows. Once a movie or TV show has been added to their UltraViolet collection, users will have options to stream it on most Internet-connected devices, download it for offline viewing, or play it back on a disc. Because UltraViolet offers so many viewing options, users have greater freedom to choose where they want to watchwhether its on a mobile device, computer, smart television, game console, etc.
DTS has been actively working with content solutions partners in support of the UltraViolet delivery format, CFF. Content creation tools that support CFF with DTS include Digital Rapids Transcode Manager 2.0 powered by Kayak, Elemental Server from Elemental Technologies, and Rovi TotalCode. In addition, a significant effort has also been placed on quality control and playback tools that ensure a top quality consumer experience. DTS has partnered with Solekai for validation tool support, CastLabs on an Android tablet-based media player, and has adapted its DTS-HD MediaPlayer to become a professional real-time player and quality control tool for CFF confidence monitoring.
