Broadcast Technician

Support FCC and MCRin order to ensure facilities and equipment are in peak condition and thereby ensuring high on air quality and operational broadcasts 24 hours a day. This entails maintenance, installation,knowledge sharing, trouble shooting,and repair of broadcast equipment and systems.

Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on broadcast equipment.

Do electronic repairs down to component level.

Perform variety of installations and mechanical repairs.

Configure broadcast equipment and computer based equipment.

Provide efficient and effective assistance and support for operations during broadcasts.

Feedback and communication with management regarding productions / repairs.

Close working relationship with clients, in order to ensure optimal delivery on broadcast and client needs and requirements.

Prompt response to fault call - out, assessment of the situation and alternatives in order to provide a solution that will ensure 24 hour broadcast facilities.

Must be shift competent within 6 months, to fully understand the Broadcast facilities.

Must agree to 24/7 standby as part of the Job deliverable.

Technical Competencies

Working knowledge and skills pertaining to different kinds of productions and broadcasts.

Good understanding of equipment & facilities within broadcasting production environment.

Technical & operational support/ advice.

Understanding and application of analogue and digital television principles.

Understanding and application ofaudio level principles.

Planning, setting up, testing and operating broadcast equipment.

Controlling and mixing audio & video signals.

Interpret and use the digital and analogue test instruments.

Performing Preventative & Corrective Maintenance of Equipment/Facilities.

Repairing equipment.

Technical/ Operational Administration, e.g. write reports and knowledge sharing documentation.

Minimum Requirements / Experience

National Diploma Light Current engineering or equivalent engineering qualification.

At least one year relevant experience as Junior Technician in electronics or the broadcast environment

Computer Literate and skilled in MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel and Power Point).

Goodcommunication skills,ability to work in a team and be self-motivated is essential.

Ability to work independently, under pressure in a live television environment

Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, shifts and adapt to circumstances

Additional Requirements / Experience that may be beneficial

IT Network knowledge. Computer literate (A+), Network knowledge (N+)

Good understanding of the workings of a TV Facilityand/or TV studio

Knowledge of Broadcast Media/ Video server environment

Experience in repairs of Broadcasting equipment, understanding of broadcast standards
