Leader to Demonstrate Latest 4K HDR Test and Measurement Technology at SATIS 06

Leader Electronics Europe will demonstrate the latest options for its LV5490 waveform monitor to television content producers, postproduction facility managers and broadcasters attending the November 15-17 SATIS show in Paris. Exhibiting on stand 3-E02, Leader will be represented by European regional development manager Kevin Salvidge and colleagues from Paris-based channel partner TRM.

The main focus of our exhibit will be the LV5490 waveform monitor, Kevin Salvidge comments. Demand for 4K content has grown strongly over the past three to four years, reflecting the fact that 4K programmes will have a much longer commercial life than content shot in nominally 2K. The most savvy producers are also gearing for high dynamic range which will soon be a standard feature of new-generation domestic television displays. The only question with HDR is which of the three main contenders will actually become the industry standard: ITU.BT.2100 Hybrid Log Gamma, Dolby PQ or Sony SLOG-3. The LV5490SER07 HDR option enables the LV5490 to measure both 4K and HD HDR in all three of these protocols.

The Leader LV5490 offers 4K, UHD, 3G, HD and SD test and measurement features in a compact portable unit. Waveform, vector and picture display can all be viewed at the same time on the instruments front-panel 9 inch LCD monitor. The monitor is full 1920 x 1080 high-definition resolution with a wide viewing angle and high quality colour reproduction. 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI rasterized outputs are also provided to feed a larger monitor. Simultaneous viewing of up to four SDI inputs is possible, including overlays. The size and location of individual channels can be adjusted on the display using a USB mouse so the user is not limited to fixed size quadrants. The LV5490 can also be controlled remotely using standard KVM tools. Additional options for the LV5490 include eye pattern with jitter measurements, digital audio I/O, Dolby decode, focus assist, CIE colour chart and 12G-SDI.



Also on demonstration will be the Leader LV5333 picture and waveform monitor. Compatible with over 20 HD-SDI/SD-SDI formats, this is designed for deployment in studios or technical areas, or attached to a camera tripod. The LV5333 incorporates a 6.5 inch XGA TFT LCD screen which can be used to display video waveform, vectorscope or picture. Features include cable length display, external timing display and field frequency deviation display. SDI-embedded audio can be extracted and two user-selectable audio channels sent as an AES/EBU stream to a BNC output. The levels of up to eight audio channels can be checked using on-screen bar displays. User-configurable multi-display combinations within the LV5333 allow easy inspection of signal parameters. Full-screen displays can alternatively be selected to allow detailed review of specific elements. The LV5333 occupies a 215 x 128 x 63 mm housing and weighs 1.3 kg. It can be powered from battery or a universal mains adapter.
