Among the technologies present at the show is one of the Group's most successful urban signalling solutions, CBTC (Communication Based Train Control). CBTC is an innovative solution that makes it possible to operate trains with high performance while achieving energy reductions of up to 15%. It was first deployed in 1985 by Thales and has been continuously innovated ever since. To date, Thales has applied its CBTC signalling solution on nearly 60 projects in over 30 major cities worldwide, moving 3 billion passengers per year.
Also featured at the show is Thales's ETCS main line rail signalling solution. Developed to promote seamless operation across borders and rail networks through its interoperable and secure functions, Thales's ETCS signalling system has proven its value in Europe and has consequently been exported around the world, to countries including Malaysia, South Korea and Turkey. Thales is a world's leading supplier of ETCS systems and equips 15,754 km of railway track on a total of 52,000 km around the world.
Thales is also featuring its innovative Passenger Information system - Thales APIS - which diffuses information, voice alarm and evacuation messages as well as advertising and infotainment. APIS enables texts, images and video to be freely mixed in messages, together with audio. Messages can be triggered by events, scheduled or generated manually. This innovative package solution includes a security platform (Thales EPS) that enables operators to display, record and search video images, providing decision support for a wide range of operational scenarios.
Thales's Centralised Traffic Control system, CTC 1000, is a further solution that will be presented at the show. This solution effectively increases the railway network's traffic capacity, improves traffic regularity - thus reducing the risk of delay in service - and rationalises railway operation.
Thales is an active player in the region's transportation market. In Malaysia, the Group has won contracts for its CBTC solution on Kuala Lumpur LRT's Ampang and Kelana Jaya lines and its ETCS systems on the city's monorail. In Singapore, Thales has been selected to provide its CBTC solution for re-signalling projects on the North-South and East-West Lines of the MRT. It also won a contract for an Integrated Supervisory Control System, which includes the traffic management of the MRT's North-East Line. Thales was also selected to deliver contactless ticketing gates for the North-East and Circle Lines.
In terms of the development of local talent, the Group also demonstrated its continued confidence and commitment to the region in 2013 through the opening of a Regional Integration Centre in Singapore and the signing of an MOU with the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) to promote human capital development for the country's rail industry.
Following the realisation of important urban rail projects in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, as well as our recent agreement with the Malaysian government to foster local talent for the rail industry,Thales will continue to accompany economic growth in this region through the implementation of new transport infrastructure and the modernisation of existing transport systems.
