Hamburg Open 2023 Preview: DHD.audio

DHD.audio will promote its full range of broadcast-quality digital audio studio equipment and systems at Hamburg Open 2022 in hall B6 of the Hamburg Messe & Congress centre, January 18th through 19th. These include production consoles and routers for use in on-air studios, editing suites and OB vehicles. DHD mixers are designed to allow easy integration into single-site or multi-site networks.

TX2 multitouch ultra-compact mixer

Making its Hamburg Open debut, the TX2 ultra-compact multitouch mixer measures just 26 cm wide by 27 cm front-to-back. It is designed for use where space is at a premium, such as news desks, co-host panels, edit suites and SNG vehicles. The TX2 provides access many features within its small footprint and can be used standalone or as an easy way to extend any DHD system. Like all DHD products, it is built to withstand intensive daily use. The mixers forward-sloping table-top panel includes a 10.1-inch capacitive multitouch IPS display, two assignable potentiometers and six silent multicolour hardware buttons, allowing fully professional audio mixing. DHDs Toolbox configuration software can be used to create the mixer layout that best fits a preferred workflow. The TX2 connects to a core processor or concentrator via a single network cable which also carries all audio and control signals, plus power, up to 100 meters. The mixing panel can be used with XC3 or XD3 cores in isolation or as part of a larger mixing system and does not require a PC for operation.

DX2 desktop audio mixing console

DHDs DX2 is a fully featured desktop audio mixing console. Fully compatible with all current DHD cores running version 10 firmware, it comes as a four-fader console with an optional six-fader expansion unit. Assistive mixing functions include motorised faders, auto-mix and auto level gain. A 3.5 mm output jack at the rear of the console doubles as an input which can be used to connect a smartphone for live telephone interviews. The DX2 integrates easily with DHD processing cores to form a complete system.

Audio processing cores

Additionally on show will be the latest additions to DHDs range of audio processing cores. These integrate elements such as control surfaces, routing and external-device interfacing into a stand-alone or distributed system. The XC3 IP Core and XD3 IP Core provide full support for intra-site as well as multi-site IP-based device control and audio-over-IP signal distribution. Automated workflows and product virtualisation are fully supported. The XC3 IP variant is designed for use in on-air studios. It comprises two dual-core DSP modules which combine into a compact 1U. These jointly support up to 48 stereo faders, 72 stereo busses and browser-based web applications for remote control and system maintenance. IPx expansion modules can be added to accommodate 128 channels of AES67/Ravenna IP audio in/out and up to 512 Dante channels. A companion module, the XC3 Concentrator, allows easy interconnection of multiple DHD IPx modules, control surfaces and I/O modules.

SX2 modular mixing console

Also on show will be the SX2 modular mixing console which is based on control surface modules which can be combined and configured to match a wide range of radio and TV production environments. It is based on a central module with four faders plus a control section including monitoring and talkback. The SX2 series also includes a fader module with six motorised faders. Central and fader modules each incorporate a 10.1-inch multi-touch display showing relevant configuration and operating parameters.
