NetApp Accelerates Customers' Use of the Cloud with New Products on Amazon Web Services Availability of NetApp SteelStore and NetApp Cloud ONTAP helps NetApp customers accelerate adoption of the AWS Cloud

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - November 12, 2014 - NetApp, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced the general availability of two new products, the NetApp SteelStore appliance and the NetApp Cloud ONTAP system, on Amazon Web Services (AWS). NetApp helps customers integrate cloud storage resources in the way that works best for them. Now enterprises have additional options to extend their existing on-premises data management and data protection operations to AWS.

The industry is in transition as enterprises look to take advantage of the economics and elasticity of the cloud while still maintaining control of their data, said Phil Brotherton, vice president of NetApp's Cloud Solutions Group. Our goal is to give customers choice in how they consistently manage and transport data seamlessly across a blend of cloud and on-premises resources. Together, NetApp and AWS are bridging customers' on-premises infrastructures with the massive scale and on-demand flexibility that AWS Cloud provides.

AWS offers enterprises compute and storage resources to use as they see fit. The NetApp Cloud ONTAP system on AWS enables customers to control their data in the cloud with the same management features of the NetApp Data ONTAP operating system and a familiar set of interfaces and tools they use on the premises today. Customers can also replace their traditional backup, archive, and recovery solutions with NetApp SteelStore cloud-integrated storage to securely and efficiently back up and recover their business data on AWS.

The cloud is providing enterprise customers with a different consumption model for the critical IT resources that scale to meet the specific needs of their business, said Terry Wise, director, Worldwide Partner Ecosystem, Amazon Web Services, Inc. With the NetApp Cloud ONTAP system and NetApp SteelStore appliance, customers have additional choice and flexibility when using AWS. These solutions help customers bridge the gap between their existing IT operations on the premises and the new IT operations developing in the cloud.

Enterprise-Class Data Management and Cloud-Integrated Storage

The Cloud ONTAP system brings the power of clustered Data ONTAP operating system to the cloud with a software-only option to easily provision and manage storage on AWS. The Cloud ONTAP system will be available in the AWS Marketplace as two Amazon Machine Image (AMI) options-Cloud ONTAP Explore and Cloud ONTAP Standard-as well as a six-month subscription option available from NetApp. AWS is the first platform provider to run Cloud ONTAP services on its cloud environment, providing customers with the following benefits:

NetApp SteelStore is available in 750 AMI, 2,030 AMI, and 3,030 AMI options on AWS, allowing organizations to back up, archive, and recover data stored on AWS and quickly return to operations within the cloud. The NetApp SteelStore AMIs provide customers with the following benefits:

Openness-Customers can integrate the cloud into their existing backup, archive, and recovery strategy with the heterogeneous support of 85% of leading backup software providers.

Unparalleled efficiency-Customers can cut data volumes by up to 90% and transport times by up to 75%.

Ironclad security and compliance-Enterprise data is kept safe and compliant in the cloud with the strong encryption of data on site, in transit, and at rest.

NetApp SteelStore is also available directly from NetApp and its channel partners as a cloud-integrated backup appliance. NetApp SteelStore also supports NetApp StorageGRID Webscale, NetApp's massively scalable, software-defined object storage solution for large archives, media repositories, and web datastores.

Product Availability

NetApp Cloud ONTAP is available immediately on the AWS Marketplace. NetApp expects the SteelStore AMIs to be available during its 2015 fiscal third quarter. The NetApp SteelStore cloud-integrated backup appliance is available immediately from NetApp and its channel partners.
