Capitol Broadcasting Support of Public Television Event Continues Despite Pandemic, with Adjustments
Capitol Broadcasting has hosted a CBC/WRAL Night at UNC-TV during the public television stations spring fundraiser for two decades. The tradition will continue this year despite the limitations of the pandemic. The 2021 CBC/WRAL Night at the PBS North Carolina (formerly known as UNC-TV) Neighbor By Neighbor Campaign will take place on Wednesday, March 10, with a few changes.
CBC employees will not be able to volunteer on the phone bank at the PBS North Carolina Studios as they did last year, nor will WRAL-TV talent be able to make live on-air pitches. But CBC will still have a presence. WRAL-TV Anchor/Reporter Lena Tillett will make the check presentation for CBCs $10,000 donation on behalf of the station.
We are very excited that CBC/WRAL is again one of our corporate partners for our current Spring Fundraiser, said PBSNC Director of Corporate Underwriting Norma Hall.
During the evening, PBS North Carolina will air a pre-recorded interview with Tillett and air segments featuring CBC and WRAL-TVs support.
WRAL has shared you have shared your wonderful talent with us over those years, and this year we were happy to work with Lena Tillett in recording the interview via Zoom, explained Hall. Fundraising producer, JC Polk, said that Lena was truly wonderful!
The interview will air around 7:55pm, before the program Urban Forge: Ozark Artistry begins at 8pm.

8:00 PM Urban Forge: Ozark Artistry
8:59 PM It's What's Happening Baby (My Music Presents)

Also new for the 2021 campaign, the name for the North Carolina public television station. UNC-TV rebranded on January 12, 2021, to PBS North Carolina, Powered by the UNC System.
In explaining the change, PBS North Carolina said, For the past 65 years UNC-TV has educated, entertained, and evolved, from black and white screens in living rooms to glowing screens in pockets, from broadcast to everywhere. Now we're no longer a traditional channel but an innovative multimedia platform, embodying everything you love about PBS and connecting North Carolinians to their communities and the world at large. As our audience evolves, so does our platform and brand.
As part of the change, the website changed from unctv.org to pbsnc.org on January 12, and PBSNC can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at @mypbsnc.
The mission remains the same.
Today many viewers watch our content online, or on an app, and this rebrand will bring consistency across platforms, minimize viewer confusion, and make it easier to find your favorite shows across platforms, explained PBSNC. We already leverage PBS apps as well as PBS' position on platforms like Roku, Apple TV and YouTube TV. Our new name will make it easier for North Carolinians to find national and our locally-produced content when searching for it online.
Capitol Broadcasting and WRAL-TV are proud to continue our annual support for this important community institution. CBC has helped PBS NC raise $613,955, since 2003 in this capacity.
