From 23 October select Ster-Kinekor theatres present the 2014 South African leg of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, hosted by Cape Union Mart. The festival showcases a collection of the most inspiring and thought-provoking short action, adventure and mountain films. South Africa is one of 35 countries and 390 communities participating globally.
Ons het Geklim
Included in the film line-up is the winning film from Cape Union Mart s Adventure Film Challenge, which was awarded to PJ Kotze and his film Ons het Geklim. The short features climbing footage collected by Kotze and his fellow mountaineers over two years at locations in and around Gauteng. The voice over was done by Jaco Van der Merwe of the popular South African band Bittereinder, while the soundtrack was done by South African band Kidofdoom.
The Beauty of the Irrational
South African filmmakers Dean Leslie and Greg Fell of The African Attachment capture the epic journey of Ryan Sandes record-breaking run of the Fish River Canyon Trail in Namibia. The film has been included as part of the World Tour and Evan Torrance, marketing director at Cape Union Mart says, We re really proud that South Africa was represented during the international festival in Canada and that local audiences can also appreciate a local story alongside international adventure feats this year.
North of the Sun
Two young Norwegian adventurers travel to a remote, arctic island to surf, ski and clean up the beach. The two quirky characters build themselves a cabin out of collected debris and take time to reflect, appreciate the rare occurrence of sunshine and discover what it means to live off the grid.
