Netflix Announces Santiago Mitres New Film Starring Ver nica Llin s and Peter Lanzani

Netflix announced today a new film made in Argentina starring Ver nica Llin s and Peter Lanzani, directed by Santiago Mitre and written by Mitre and Mariano Llin s. The film is a political thriller that portrays the infiltration of a high-ranking officer into groups that were peacefully beginning to organise to demand the release of their detained relatives, unaware that these small groups were giving rise to an unprecedented form of civil resistance in the very heart of the Argentine dictatorship.
Produced by La Uni n de los R os (Argentina) and Maneki Films (France), filming will begin in March in various locations in the city of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires. Following the Academy Award nomination for Argentina, 1985, Mitre returns to filmmaking with Netflix on this new project, about which he said: This film reconstructs a real, specific moment, and does so from the inside, following ordinary people in an extreme situation. It does not attempt to encompass an entire era, but rather to observe how violence seeps into everyday life. A story that reveals the most intimate betrayal and the most powerful resistance. A thriller based on real events, where what is most unsettling is that nothing seems extraordinary-until it's too late.
Peter Lanzani, who starred alongside Ricardo Dar n in Argentina, 1985, now takes on one of the darkest roles of his career and remarked: Accepting this role means embracing discomfort from day one. It's a character that requires understanding real mechanisms of manipulation and betrayal, not caricatures. The responsibility lies in neither softening nor exaggerating it, but making it believable. Preparing for it involves working on the trust and mistrust someone like him generates-and accepting that telling this story also carries an ethical weight.
For her part, Agustina Llambi Campbell, producer at La Uni n de los R os, added: For our production team, making this film is an enormous privilege-because of the importance of its story, our story, transformed into pure cinematic drive in the wonderful script written by Santiago Mitre and Mariano Llin s, and because of how deeply it resonates today; because of the opportunity to work alongside a cast and crew of longtime and new collaborators with unmatched talent and commitment; because of supporting Santiago's vision and leadership in a new chapter of his indispensable journey as a filmmaker; and because of Netflix's generous and unconditional trust. Finally, Ver nica Llin s reflected on the challenge of portraying a mother searching for her son: Starring in this film is an enormous responsibility and, at the same time, a privilege. I approach the character from her humanity, not from what she represents. I'm interested in her clarity, her determination, and the way she transforms pain into action. It's a story about collective courage, but also about very specific personal decisions. I approach this project with respect and commitment.

He is the writer-director of El Estudiante (The Student), La Patota (Paulina), La Cordillera (The Summit), and Peque a Flor (Petite Fleur). He is a partner at the production company La Uni n de los R os. His film Argentina, 1985 premiered in the International Competition at the Venice Film Festival, won the Golden Globe for Best International Feature Film, the Goya and Platino Awards for Best Ibero-American Film, and received nominations from BAFTA and the Academy Awards .
