The Quirino Awards nominees announced Latin American animation titlesIn total, 54 works from ten countries have been nominated in nine categories of Quirino Animation Awards. Spain and Mexico are the countries most represented, with 21 and 12 nominations, respectively.
The Quirino of the Ibero-American animation Awards revealed the works nominated in nine categories of its first edition, It will be held on April 7 on the island of Tenerife (Spain).
The Quirino awards are named in tribute to the creator of the first feature
animation historyThe Quirino Cristiani Italian-Argentine, who in 1917 headed The
ApostleA production in which Argentina 58,000 drawings were used made hands and
shot in 35 mm, plus several models representing public buildings and
streets of the city of Buenos Aires.
The selection for this first edition of the Awards Quirino has been made by the French Lo c Portier, Irishman Barry ODonoghue, Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron and Spanish Paco Rodriguez and Zulay Rodr guez; It reflects the diversity of works produced in Ibero-America, combining works of filmmakers dedicated to works of new talents.
The list includes the latest films from directors like Carlos Carrera animation, Luis Tellez, Sofia Carrillo, Enrique Gato, Juan Pablo Zaramella or Marc Riba and Anna Solanas, among others.
It emphasizes the plurality of countries representedA total of ten (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay), led by Spain (21 nominations), Mexico (12) and Brazil (6). Two works share the lead with the most nominations (4): short the giants way Alois di Leo (Brazil) Cerulia Sofia Carrillo (Mexico).
The 54 nominated works will be evaluated by an international jury, which will select three finalists in each category. The list of finalists will be published in February.
The six films that aspire to Quirino Award are Mexicans Ana and Bruno and The angel on the clock; the Spanish Deep and Tadeo Jones 2: The secret of King Midas; the Colombian- Uruguay Lilas book and Peruvian Condorito, the film. Meanwhile, nominated series are Mexican The leyends, Chile Puerto Paper (A co-production with Brazil, Colombia and Argentina), the Argentine-French The youngest man in the world, the Spanish Pocoyo (4th season) and two co-productions between Colombia and Spain: Tales of old (3rd season) monsters afechantes. Coproduction ForumOn the other hand, Quirino Iberoamericana Awards Animation hold open calls for participation in the Coproduction Forum and the International Congress, the two professional activities taking place on 6 and 7 April.
The call to Coproduction Forum, aimed at companies, producers or Latin American channels or television interest in Latin America, is open until 25 January. The meeting will bring together professionals from the region in B2B meetings, workshops and presentations of the state of the industry in different territories.
The International Congress, which seeks to raise an interdisciplinary exchange between academia and the profession around the animation and technology, receive proposals until 24 January. The event will feature special animation historian, teacher and writer Giannalberto Bendazzi, who will give the inaugural conference on 6 April.
