Video Reporter

The video reporter is responsible and accountable for producing news, sport and lifestyle videos with a target turnaround time of two hours. The videos must be in line with the Style guide in terms of angle, accuracy, facts, speed, balance, credibility, reliability and neutrality.

Reporting news/breaking stories, working solo or within a team with other multimedia producers or general editorial staff, as required.

Competent and innovative camera work combined with skilled editing and final production of video clips, with scripting and voice-overs when required.

Identification and creation of ideas for video, as well as preparation of background and archival information, generally, to use to efficiently produce their work.

Experience, qualifications and skills:

Matric and post-matric journalism diploma or degree or equivalent course(s) of study in the production of news videos.

An excellent command of written English, and a functional knowledge of at least one other official language is a must. Also required is a high level of interest in and knowledge of current affairs, particularly regarding the ongoing South African news story.

A wide-ranging general knowledge will also be needed, as will a solid grounding in media ethics and law, and a commitment to the S A Press Code of Conduct.

Please note: The successful candidate must have experience in a hard news environment, as well as be able to work shifts.
