SOCAL CONNECTED HONORED WITH GRACIE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING HARD NEWS FEATURE
Los Angeles - February 24, 2012 - KCET, the nations largest independent television station serving Southern and Central California, is pleased to announce that SoCal Connected, the stations hard-hitting weekly news program, will receive the esteemed Gracie Award for Outstanding Hard News Feature for the piece, No Place to Call Home, produced by Angela Shelley.
In the 30-minute special report that originally aired on March 24, 2011, SoCal Connected correspondent and Orange County Register columnist Yvette Cabrera explores the thousands of families forced to live in motels as they struggle to find affordable housing in Orange County.
Were thrilled to win this highly coveted national award, said Bret Marcus, executive producer of SoCal Connected and KCET chief content officer. Angela, along with the rest of the team, did a remarkable job in putting together an incredible story, so it is an honor to be acknowledged for our work.
Presented by the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) Foundation, The Gracie Award recognizes exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry. The awards program also encourages the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, news, features and other programs.
The award, recognized in the Local, Online, Public, and Student Award Winners category, will be presented during the Gracie Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the historic Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.
