Technicolor Montreal Provides On-Location Services for White House Down

Technicolor Montreal mobilized its teams for more than 100 days for this production, providing services including on-location services, dailies management, near-set sound services and French-Canadian versioning.

Dailies Management

Photographed by Anna Forrester, ASC, mainly in Montreal, in 2012, White House Down filming locations were spread all over the city, and was shot using five main camera systems: Alexa, Red, Canon C300, Sony Smart Phone and the NCam System. For each day of shooting, dailies were sent from locations to Technicolor Montreal, utilizing the company's dedicated fiber optic network for dailies management and file preparation. Technicolor Montreal also managed the dailies for the production's Washington sequences.

Near-Set ADR

To save time in the postproduction process, Sony looked into the option of near-set ADR, since all the actors were available to perform audio sweetening and post-sync in between their scenes. Technicolor provided the production team with a customized mobile ADR studio, built from scratch by Technicolor engineers. The sound engineering team worked in the truck, allowing the cast to record off screen lines, while still in Montreal. The truck followed the cast to the various sets throughout the shoot, enabling the production to save time.

Adaptation and versioning

Technicolor was also selected by Sony Pictures Canada for the adaptation and French Canadian language versioning of White House Down. Olivier Reichenbach adapted the English and served as acting art director during the recording of the French Canadian version. Overall, Technicolor versioned 74 characters, including Channing Tatum's character dubbed by Fr d rik Zacharek and Jamie Foxx's character dubbed by Pierre Auger. Technicolor's design team also recreated the French Canadian versions of the opening titles and credits.
