Lawo, a manufacturer of digital audio consoles and IP-based video routing equipment, and Arista Networks, a software-driven cloud networking solutions provider for large data centre and computing environments, will have a joint showcase at NAB, running from 11 to 16 April in Las Vegas. Prior to the show, the companies will host a joint webinar on 9 April at 10h00 PDT, describing the current SMPTE 2022 and VSF standards, different ways of performing seamless video switching in an IP-based broadcast infrastructure (source-timed, switch-timed, and destination-timed), and how software defined networking (SDN) techniques such as OpenFlow are enabling broadcast control systems to orchestrate and automate that infrastructure. At NAB, Arista and Lawo will provide a live demonstration of frame-accurate video switching using components which are available today; pioneering the way to a post-baseband video switching infrastructure. The showcase will be shown at both the Arista booth (SL14513) and the Lawo booth (C2218).

This is a compelling demonstration of orchestration and automation in a broadcast network based on commercially available components , said Ed Chapman, vice president of Business Development and Alliances at Arista Networks. The combination of Arista EOS software and switches with video edge devices and control from Lawo really highlights the promise of the next-generation broadcast production environment.

Erling Hedkvist, senior vice president at Lawo commented, The seamless integration of Arista s switches and our control layer allows us to implement a solution the way broadcasters want it. It is all but invisible that below the VSM control system there s now IP video switching instead of SDI. And since our approach is based on source-timed switching, we re neither wasting any bandwidth nor compromising the quality of switching. It s just as clean and frame-accurate as conventional baseband technology.
