Grizzly Encounter: GoPro Gets Up Close and Personal with Brutus and Bella the Bears

Today marks the 11th annual Endangered Species Day - an opportunity to bring awareness to the protection of endangered species and everyday actions we can take to help protect them.

In recognition of this day, GoPro invites you into the world of the endangered Grizzly Bear. This new GoPro original production video offers intimate access into the environment, personality and habits of this species and reveals the kinship possible between man and animal.

Casey Anderson is a naturalist and grizzly bear expert who first met Brutus the Grizzly - one subject of this story - as a captive cub still living in the Den with its siblings and mother. Out of this encounter, Casey's mission to create a new safe haven for grizzlies was born.

Casey established the Montana Grizzly Encounter to ensure the well being of grizzly bears born in captivity. He took on the responsibility of young cub Brutus and began accepting additional rescued grizzlies from around the country. Years later, Anderson welcomed Bella, an orphan cub from Alaska and the second subject of this video, into his sanctuary.

Anderson has formed an intimate and comfortable bond with Brutus and Bella, interacting, playing, communicating and engaging in a way that most would consider impossible.

Casey acknowledges that, the bond and brother-ship I have [these animals] is built from time and trust and is a gift. No one should go out expecting a grizzly bear and human to get along.

GoPro is fortunate to have documented the incredible relationship between Anderson, Brutus and Bella, and eager to share the important mission of saving the endangered Grizzly Bear.

I aspire to spread knowledge of the grizzly bear so people can relinquish their fear and turn it into respect, Anderson says. I hope to raise awareness of the current debate regarding the delisting of grizzlies from the endangered species list and inspire people to help protect the future of these magnificent beings.
