Hungarian satellite operator relies on Rohde & Schwarz headends

R&S AVHE100 Headend is integrated into HDT's direct to home (DTH) platform.

Munich | 06/12/2015 | Broadcast and Media Hungarian satellite operator relies on Rohde & Schwarz headends Since the beginning of the year, Hungarian satellite operator Hungaro DigiTel (HDT) has been using encoders, multiplexers and monitoring equipment from Rohde & Schwarz to broadcast public and private TV programs. Formerly a data communications service provider, satellite operator HDT has expanded its portfolio to include broadcasting of TV programs. To encode and multiplex these programs, Rohde & Schwarz integrated its R&S AVHE100 headend into the broadcasters direct to home (DTH) platform. In the first stage, a total of five HD and six SD channels will be broadcasting via Amos or Eutelsat.

HDT also employs solutions from Rohde & Schwarz subsidiary GMIT to automatically monitor signals. The BMM-810 multiviewer and compact Prismon system detect content errors. A video wall enables HDT to visually monitor the programs. The contract includes a Service Level Agreement to provide HDT with 24/7 support from Rohde & Schwarz over the next five years.

HDT was especially impressed by the fully IP-based encoding and multiplexing. The integrated headend management system allows users to conveniently configure and monitor individual components. The DTH platform is fully redundant and also failsafe thanks to interruption free signal switching.

HDT has already had to add six more HD channels to the platform for a new customer. The headend can be expanded at any time, making it easy for HDT to add needed channels. The R&S AVHE100 can also be upgraded to handle any new standard.
