NVIDIA Teams with AutoDesk, RED to Bring 3D Animation, 6K Video Editing to Laptops

Whether you create complex 3D animations or edit high resolution video, you will soon be able to do your best work on the go. This week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, we're demonstrating how we're bringing hardware-accelerated ray tracing, AI-enhanced graphics, and advanced video processing to our new, thin and light GeForce RTX Max-Q laptops.

GPU-Accelerated Ray Tracing with Autodesk Arnold, Maya, and 3ds Max Ray tracing has forever changed 3D animation. It lets content creators accurately simulate light, reflections, and shadows for more realistic movies, games, and online videos. At CES, we're showing how GeForce RTX 2080 laptops help Maya and 3ds Max users tune and tweak their animations more quickly on the go thanks to the upcoming RTX-accelerated Arnold renderer.

Ray tracing a single view of a 3D model using traditional CPU approaches can take minutes or more. This means more time waiting, and less time creating, when artists make a small change or view the model from a different angle. No longer.

NVIDIA and Autodesk are collaborating to accelerate ray tracing in Arnold using RTX GPUs. This enables artists to work more interactively with their models, spending less time waiting on their hardware. With the new RTX 2080 notebooks, animators will be able to bring their work with them and experience up to 7.5x faster ray tracing performance than a high-end desktop CPU1.

Even more potential of Arnold will be unlocked with NVIDIA RTX technology, says Chris Young, vice president for media and entertainment product, Autodesk. Our users will be able to take advantage of faster ray tracing performance to get their work done more quickly on the go.

6K Video Editing For Hollywood Pros And Online Creators Alike If you produce video for a living, you know you're always being asked to amaze. To do that, the ability to view and edit video on-location during filming, and not having to wait to see things afterward isn't just important. It's imperative.

Content creators and filmmakers need instant feedback so they can make quick decisions, or re-shoot a scene after seeing earlier takes. However, working with high resolution RAW video can bring a high-end workstation to its knees, not to mention a laptop. Until now.

This is made possible by the new NVIDIA CUDA-accelerated REDCODE SDK. It lets you edit video in real-time without pre-caching or low-resolution proxy generation. Plus, with the GeForce RTX 2080 laptop, you can even play back, edit and color-grade 8K content at half-resolution.

We're excited to be working with NVIDIA to continue finding ways to deliver improved experiences to our shared customers, said RED Digital Cinema President Jarred Land. First, developing GPU decoding from their range of add-in cards for real time full-resolution 8K playback, and now an easier solution for faster playback for RED owners working in the field.
