Cape Town audio post facility making its mark with TIFF selections

Tim Pringle: Final mix engineer and owner of new Cape Town based audio post production facility, Origin Audio, is proud to be a part of two films (iNumber Number & Berea) that were selected for the Toronto Film Festival.

The audio post production facility opened its doors in January this year and is off to a good start with numerous long and short form projects including the two TIFF selected films, iNumber Number and Berea.

Berea was a great short film that gave me an opportunity to put some of my own recordings of bustling Johannesburg to use. The film explores the anxiety of an elderly gentleman totally disoriented by the radical urbanisation of his neighbourhood. With this in mind, I was able to use sound effects to create an uneasiness between his familiar apartment and the changing world outside.

With an openness to work with others in the same field, Tim joined forces with Janno Muller from On-Key Sound Studios in Johannesburg to complete the challenging 5.1 cinema mix on iNumber Number.

I think it is really important to collaborate with other engineers in our industry. It gives one an opportunity to grow and experience new ways of mixing. We progress and learn from working together, so I was really exited when Janno asked me to be part of the team on iNumber Number. Donovan Marshs projects always provide ample opportunity to create rich sound design to enhance the visual experience, and it was no different this time round.
