Vochlea announce DubBox

New app turns vocal percussion into polished loops

Vochlea, the company behind the voice-to-MIDI instrument Dubler 2, have just announced the launch of a new standalone application that's capable of turning vocal percussion into production-ready drum loops. Designed for producers and beatmakers who sketch ideas with beatboxing', DubBox detects a kick, snare and hi-hat sounds in a user's voice, uses them to trigger drum samples in real time and then records, quantises and exports the result as an audio or MIDI file.

Users can train the plug-in on up to eight of their own vocal sounds per project and map each one to samples - a built-in collection is provided, and it's possible to use custom samples, too. The triggering is velocity-responsive, so a harder hit plays a harder drum, and users are able to monitor their voice blended with the samples in real time. When recording a free take' without a click track, DubBox will detects the performances natural BPM, then stretches and quantises both the sample track and the original vocal input onto a clean grid, tightening up the timing while preserving the feel' of the original take. Once users are happy with the results, they can be exported as an audio or MIDI file for use in a DAW.
