Overal draadloze ontvangst tijdens de Invictus Games
Het Haagse Zuiderpark staat tussen 16 en 22 april 2022 in het teken van de Invictus Games. Ruim vijfhonderd militairen en veteranen die lichamelijk of psychisch gewond zijn geraakt in het leger, laten tijdens dit bijzondere evenement zien dat zij ondanks hun handicap nog op hoog niveau kunnen en willen sporten. Aan Broadcast Rental de taak om met hun draadloze camerasystemen deze uitzonderlijke prestaties te registreren.
Twee jaar later dan de bedoeling was, vindt de vijfde editie van de Invictus Games plaats. Als gevolg van de corona crisis werden de Invictus Games 2020 twee keer uitgesteld. De plannen voor de registratie van het evenement lagen dus al eventjes klaar. Maar hoewel Broadcast Rental veel ervaring heeft met grootschalige internationale sportevenementen en omvangrijke producties met veel RF-inzet, is het in beeld brengen van een dergelijk evenement toch weer compleet anders.
Vooropgesteld gaat het gedurende de Invictus Games vooral om de participanten en minder om de prestaties. vertelt Frank Steenbeek, CEO van Broadcast Rental. In tegenstelling tot bijvoorbeeld de Paralympische Spelen draait het hier grotendeels om het stimuleren van herstel door sport en ontmoetingen met lotgenoten en familie. De focus ligt op het traject wat de deelnemers hebben doorlopen en die prestatie is doorgaans groter dan de sportieve prestatie. Dit is dan ook de reden dat er op een andere wijze geregistreerd wordt. Er wordt wat meer afstand genomen en het is minder in your face'.
RF-Wolk
Bijna alle wedstrijden vinden plaats in het Haagse Zuiderpark, waar meer dan 500 deelnemers uit twintig landen het tegen elkaar opnemen. Het stadspark is 105 hectare groot en opdrachtgever FabriQ Media Group vraagt Broadcast Rental om draadloze camera-ontvangst te leveren in het hele gebied. Binnen en buiten. En dat is zelfs voor Broadcast Rental een uitdagende klus.
Steenbeek: We werden gevraagd om in totaal 8 draadloze systemen te leveren die binnen het gehele Zuiderpark bij alle sportlocaties flexibel ingezet konden worden. Dat wil zeggen dat als de actualiteit daar om vroeg, n of meerder RF camera's op een andere locatie ingezet konden worden, terwijl de dekking en ontvangst gegarandeerd was. Om dit te bewerkstelligen cre erden we een zogenaamde RF-wolk in het hele Zuiderpark.
De hoogte in
Zowel in het hele buitengebied van het Zuiderpark, als de twee binnenlocaties de sporthal en de het Invictus Games theater worden voorzien van RF-ontvangst. Arno Maandonks is n van RF-engineers die van begin tot eind betrokken bij de technische realisatie van deze 105 hectare grote RF-wolk. Het was voor ons een unieke situatie. Het Zuiderpark is een park met veel bomen en weinig gebouwen waarop we antennes konden plaatsen. Om toch het hele gebied te kunnen coveren moesten we flink de hoogte in.
Er wordt gekozen voor het gebruik van drie hoogwerkers verdeeld over het terrein. De hoogwerkers halen een hoogte van zo'n 25 tot 30 meter; een ideale hoogte voor de antennes om elk hoekje van het park te kunnen coveren.
Opschalen
We hebben uiteindelijk met verschillende type antennes een waterdichte RF-dekking verkregen, een zogenaamde 16-way. Die komt niet zo vaak voor , lacht Maandonks. Tijdens tests eerder in het jaar konden we nog met iets minder af, maar toen zaten er aanzienlijk minder blaadjes aan de bomen dan tijdens het evenement. Fijn is dan dat ons systeem schaalbaar is. Met welke variabelen je ook te maken krijgt, door middel van een paar aanpassingen vergroot je het bereik of verbeter je de ontvangst. De enige limiet is de beschikbare apparatuur. Gelukkig hebben daar heel veel van!
Dubbel uitgevoerd
Dat deze set-up alles behalve standaard was, blijkt ook aan ontvangstkant bij de wagen. Normaal gesproken heb je per draadloze zender slechts n ontvanger nodig, maar met een dergelijk groot gebied en een groot aantal antennes waren we genoodzaakt dit dubbel uit te voeren. Op deze manier konden alle acht RF-zenders afzonderlijk van elkaar over het gehele terrein gebruikt worden, ongeacht waar, wanneer en met hoeveel tegelijk.
Steenbeek: Van deze acht systemen zijn er twee uitgerust op de motoren die werden ingezet bij het wielrennen. Daarnaast waren er de hele week drie handheld camera's met een RF systeem aanwezig en ook de Movi van Ben de Graaf was van de partij. De Agito, railcam en flyline werd ook voorzien van een RF systeem. En dan hadden we ook nog een drone met shading rondvliegen die ontzettend prettig binnenkwam op de hoogwerkers .
Leeg magazijn
Niet alleen waren deze Invictus Games een demonstratie van de kwaliteit n kwantiteit van Broadcast Rental's RF-voorraad, ook werden delen van de Fly-Pack ingezet voor de monitoring. Daarnaast werd de hardware en infrastructuur voor de EVS-opzet geleverd; vijf EVS VIA servers, twee XFiles, IP Directors, een Xhub en alle werkplekken voor de slomo operators.
Een bijzondere week
Dat we onze spierballen konden laten zien tijdens deze productie was natuurlijk erg leuk. Maar belangrijker is dat we hebben kunnen meewerken aan dit bijzondere evenement , zegt Frank Steenbeek. Kenmerkend was de gemoedelijke sfeer, zowel onder de deelnemers als onder de crew. De indrukwekkende verhalen en de geweldige prestaties die we hebben geregistreerd geven een compleet andere dynamiek dan tijdens de topsportevenementen die we gewend zijn.
