In anticipation of Halloween, a new Afrikaans short film Koshuis will probably see your worst boarding school nightmares come to life.

About the Afrikaans short film Koshuis kykNET's Koshuis tells the story of Bee, who arrives at an abandoned hostel, with a bag full of secrets when she runs into a trio of malicious girls. It turns out each girl is hiding something dark. When a mysterious woman shows up, tradition flies out the window, and survival becomes first priority.

Image: Supplied The 90-minute film, directed by the South African actor and director, Kaz McFadden, stars Devonecia Swartz, Lech Joubert, Robyn Rossouw, Melissa Willering.

Kaz describes the film as a dark and sinister take on the fear that grabs any person when you might find yourself in a desolated structure or even your own house when it is only you.

What I like about this film, in particular, is the fact that it plays on the myths surrounding a ghost or urban legend that goes hand in hand with most boarding schools, he told The South African.

Getting the spooky factor' right This means that to get the spooky factor right, most of the film was filmed during the night, which subsequently had its own challenges.

You need to get your crew and cast to reset to suddenly work long hours during the night and sleep during the day.

Nevertheless, Kaz hopes that this film will get the adrenaline pumping.

If you whatch a movie like this it is for one reason and one reason only, you want to get the adrenaline pumping in the same way as when somebody suddenly screams whah!! from behind. So I hope that we get the adrenaline pumping. Most films in this genre are purely for that joyride if you can call it that.
