It's the last weekend of summer and NYC is celebrating with a plethora of options.
Summer will be officially over soon and we're already in mourning. However, we'll find solace in this jam-packed weekend filled with screenings, dance parties, comedy shows and some special Labor Day Events.
Friday, August 30: Strong Female Lead: Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean
Videology at 8:30PM
Cost: FREE
Are you a disciple of James Dean? Sandy Dennis, Cher, Kathy Bates and the late Karen Black certainly are Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. They star as a group of James Dean superfans coming together after a long separation for the 20th anniversary of the actor's death. Old wounds are opened as the women's discuss their past and what they want for the future. The first 20 people get a lock of hair (just imagine it belonged to Dean), and a movie themed drawing will be awarded after the film!
Superheros Unite NYC
SRB Brooklyn at 10PM

Head On: Blondie v. Fleetwood Mac

Don't spend your night hanging on the telephone and make your way into Brooklyn this Friday night to celebrate a musical competition featuring Blondie and Fleetwood Mac. Each month Djs Brian Blackout, Lepaux and Spoolwork pick two different musical themes and pit them against each other in cage-match style. Best group? You determine the winner with your applause and enthusiasm. So don't be afraid to go your own way.
Saturday, August 31: Starship Troopers and Total Recall
Film Forum at 1:00PM, 3:10PM, 5:40PM, 7:50PM
Cost: $12.50
We can't think of a better way to spend your Saturday afternoon than with a Paul Verhoeven double feature. While Total Recall is the true treasure here ( Consider this a divorce! ), we're just a little giddy that Starship Troopers, the widely panned but awesome space epic, is getting a few show times at the lauded NYC repertory house.
What I Did for Love
UCB East at 10PM
Cost: $10
Isn't everyone's love life a source of comedic fodder? Talented improvisers from 30 Rock, The Daily Show and UCB will interview random audience members about their personal lives and then weave the tales of love and woe into a hour of comedy gold.
Novelization: A Reading Series based on the Original Motion Picture

Who doesn't enjoy the collision of books and movies? Get ready to bust a gut listening to comedians Chris Gethard, Eliot Glazer and Sue Smith perform dramatic readings of scenes from some of your favorite movies including classics like The Goonies and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. You'll never think of the truffle shuffle the same way again.
Sunday, September 1: Bike Cult Show
Warsaw Concert Hall at 11:30AM (All Day Event)
Cost: $10
If you're a bicycle enthusiast, ride over to Williamsburg to catch the last day of the Bike Cult Show. While the Festival goes on the entire weekend, Sunday is Builder's Day when merchants and bike builders all around Brooklyn open their shops to the public. The Warsaw will have all the addresses and hours of the shop fronts and workshops for riders to explore after they view the main area. The best way to get around would be by bike, of course.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High
IFC Center at 12:05AM

All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine. If you haven't seen Amy Heckerling's high school comedy about some wild Californian teens, you no longer have an excuse. Plus, Monday's is a holiday so it's ok to stay out late. Filled with star-making turns from Judge Reinhold, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates and, of course, Sean Penn as Spicoli, Fast Times at Ridgemont High is an important entry into the cultural zeitgeist.
